6 Main Functions:
6.1 MONITORING:
Fx8000A is capable of monitoring analog data and status signals of following inputs:
• Transformer LV load Voltage
• Tap Changer Status including Tap position
• Tap Changing In Progress
• Status of Control switches
• OLTC Motor Trip
• Temperature difference between OLTC compartment and main tank
• Temperature & status of transformer cooler and Top Oil temperature
• Winding Hot spot temperature
• Running status of cooler fans and / or pumps
• Fan or Pump Trip
This data is available on display and for data logging / remote communication.
For each analog value, the TCS displays the present as well as minimum and
maximum value reached since the last time. The TCS has integrated feature to
accept three wire resistor input to display tap position and Pt100 input to display
top of oil temperature.

6.2 COOLING CONTROL:

Fx8000A is capable of controlling all cooling systems of the transformer including
pumps and fans. The control function is operated in such a way as to keep the
transformer temperature within the limit set by the user.
Fx8000A is capable of activating Predictive mode to turn on the cooling system based
on predicted top oil and winding hot spot temperatures (in addition to normal
control, based on actual temperatures.)
This works in the event of a sudden sustained increase in load current, before the
temperatures has risen to normal control settings, so as to keep the transformer
cooling longer. Predicted temperature is based on a thermal model of each specific
transformer (based on actual heat run tests), ambient temperature, and load. It is
possible to automatically exercise testing of the cooler system at preset intervals
to ensure that they are still functional; an alarm is generated if the test fails OLTC
Control.

Rev R1: 15.06.2021
Pradeep Sales &
Service Pvt Ltd

6.3 OLTC CONTROL:

With push buttons or keys at the controller or from SCADA, OLTC control includes
selection of following operating modes and features as applicable:
• AVR (Automatic voltage regulation)
• Independent, Master or Follower options in Parallel mode
• Circulating current in parallel mode
• Circulating current is based on MVA rating of transformer
• AVR time delay is settable with definite time, fast tap down and inverse-time
modes.
• AVR with Line Drop Compensation ‘LDC’ option.
• AVR is blocked, if the voltage drops below the under voltage set points, to
prevent false operation in the event of supply line fault.
• OLTC operations are blocked if the current though the OLTC exceeds a preset
value.

6.4 PERFORMANCE CALCULATIONS AND PREDICTIONS:

Fx8000A is capable of calculating following entities :
• Watts and VARs
• Accumulated number of tap changers from each tap position (Discrete counter
for each tap position) and total number of tap changers.
• Winding hot spot temperatures for each winding and maximum achieved
temperature
• Accumulated insulation aging (use of life) based on the winding hot spot (years)
as per the loading guide for oil immersed power transformer.
• The use of life calculations is conveyed to the operator and the amount of
overload available is two hours duration from the time in question.
Accumulated operating hours for each fan and pump group.

6.5 GENERATING ALARMS:

Alarms are extended to the SCADA system in the following conditions:
• Voltage out of range for long duration (AVR mode only)
• Voltage exceeds over voltage or is less than Under voltage alarm settings.
• OLTC auxiliary power failure/ OLTC fail (tap change in progress too long or
OLTC motor trip).
• Temperature abnormalities such as high oil and high winding temperature.
• Top oil or winding hot spot temperature exceeds alarm settings.

7|Page
Rev R1: 15.06.2021
Pradeep Sales &
Service Pvt Ltd

• Cooler auxiliary power failures /Cooler fail (Contactor failed to close when
switched ON, or motor tripped, or oil flow failed).
All OLTC and temperature signals are provided by means of voltage free
contacts where the contacts have a rating of not less than 0.4A at 125 V DC
resistive.
All other trip signals such as Buchholz, pressure relief and OLTC surge are
provided directly from the voltage free contacts of the respective device, not
via the TCS. The alarms can however be wired via the TCS.

6.6 DATA LOGGING AND EVENT RECORDING:

Monitored data is logged with time stamp (i.e. date-time) in a format, which
can be easily imported to data analysis software such as pdf. Fx8000A unit has
integrated facility to do time synchronization with IEC 61850 Master. An event
record is provided to record date and time (to nearest second) with common log
when the status of any alarm changes. The data stored remains intact even
during a power failure.

6.7 COMMUNICATION:
Fx8000A accepts all Analog/Digital quantities relevant to the control of
transformer or as required by the user. These quantities can be interfaced to the
user’s SCADA equipment. Fx8000A is capable of making the parameter change
from remote (SCADA/SAS). The protocol of communication is as per IEC 61850
