any.
e) If 1, 2, and 3 are eigen values of a 3x3 matrix, then find all eigen
values of 𝐴−2 .
f) Write sufficient conditions for the existence of a diagonal form of
a square matrix.

4𝑥 + 12𝑦 − 2𝑧 = 15,
4𝑥 − 𝑦 + 9𝑧 = 9,
are strongly diagonally dominant or not.

Answer the following: (58=40)
UNIT-I
2. By reducing into row-echelon form, find the rank of the matrix

3. Determine the values of 𝜆 for which the set of equations may possess
non-trivial solution

UNIT-II
4. Let p, q, r be fixed elements of the field 𝑅. Then show that the set
{(𝑥, 𝑦, 𝑧) | 𝑝𝑥 + 𝑞𝑦 + 𝑟𝑧 = 0} is a subspace of the vector space
𝑅 3 (𝑅).
OR
5. Show that the set of vectors {(1, 2, 3), (0, 1, 2), (0, 0, 1)} generates the
vector space 𝑅3 (𝑅).

using Gauss elimination method with partial pivoting and scaling.

11. Find the solution up to 4 iterations of the set of equations
3x + 2y - z = 4, x + 2y + z = 8, 2x - y + 2z = 6, using Gauss-Seidel
method.
