GRADE – 9

Revision worksheet with Answer Key

PART – 1

1. What is the slope of velocity-time graph when a body moves with uniform velocity?
(A) positive
(B) negative
(C) either positive or negative
(D) zero

2. A body thrown vertically upwards reaches a maximum height h. It then returns to ground. The
distance and the displacement travelled by the body respectively are
(A) 2h , zero
(B) h , zero
(C) zero, 2h
(D) zero, h

3. If a body is moving at constant speed in a circular path, its

(A) velocity is constant and its acceleration is zero
(B) velocity and acceleration are both changing direction only
(C) velocity and acceleration are both increasing
(D) velocity is constant and acceleration is changing direction

4. The seat belts are provided in the cars so that if the car stops suddenly due to an emergency braking,
the persons sitting on the front seats are not thrown forward violently and saved from getting injured.
Can you guess the law due to which a person falls in forward direction on the sudden stopping of the
car?
(A) Newton’s first law of motion
(B) Newton’s second law of motion
(C) Newton’s third law of motion
(D) Newton’s law of gravitation

5. The distance-time graph of an object moving in a fixed direction is shown in graph. The object

(A) is at rest
(B) moves with a constant velocity
(C) moves with a variable velocity
(D) moves with a constant acceleration

6. The inertia of a moving object depends on:

i. Mass of the object
ii. Momentum of the object
iii. Speed of the object
iv. Shape of the object
Choose the correct option:
(A) (i) and (ii)
(B) only (i)
(C) only (ii)
(D) (iii) and (iv)

7. If the force acting on the body is zero, then its momentum is

(A) zero
(B) constant
(C) can be zero or constant
(D) none of the above

8. Four cars A, B, C and D are moving on a levelled road. Their distance versus time graph isshown in the
figure. Choose the correct statement.

A. Car A is faster than car D

B. Car B is the slowest

C. Car D is faster than car C

D. Car C is the slowest

For Q.9 – Q.11, two statements are given - one labelled Assertion (A) and the other labelled Reason (R).
Select the correct answer to the question from the given codes a), b), c) and d).
a) Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of the assertion.

b) Both A and R are true but R is not the correct explanation of the assertion.

c) A is true but R is false.

d) A is false but R is true.

9. Assertion : A quick collision between two bodies is more violent than a slow collision, even when the
initial and the final velocities are identical.

Reason : Because the rate of change of momentum which determines the force is greater in the first
case.

Ans(a)

10.Assertion : When astronauts throw something in space, that object would continue moving in the
same direction and with the same speed.
Reason : The acceleration of an object produced by a net applied force is directly related to the
magnitude of the force, and inversely related to the mass of the object.
Ans(b)

11. Assertion : The speedometer of a car measures the instantaneous speed of the car.
Reason : Average speed is equal to the total distance covered by an object divided by the total
time taken.
Ans(b)

PART -2

1. A body of mass 100g is at rest on a smooth surface. A force of 0.1-newton act on it for 5 seconds.
Calculate the distance traveled by the body.
2. A bullet of mass 4 g when fired with a velocity of 50 ms-1, can enter a wall up to a depth of 10 cm. How
much will be the average resistances offered by the wall?

3. The brakes applied to a car produce an acceleration of 6 ms-2 in the opposite direction to the motion.
If the car takes 2s to stop after the application of brakes, calculate the distance it travels during this time.

4. A car acquires a velocity of 72 km per hour in 10 seconds starting from rest. Find
(i) the acceleration,
(ii) the average velocity, and
(iii) the distance travelled in this time.
5. A bike is moving with a velocity of 25 m/s when brakes are applied. The total mass of the scooter and
the rider is 160Kg. The constant force applied by the brakes is 500 N.

a) What is the acceleration exerted by the applied force?

Ans: a = F/ m
= 500 / 160
= 3.125 m/s2

b) How long should the brakes be applied to make the scooter comes to a halt?
t =v -u /a
= 0 – 25/- 3.125
=8s

c) How far does the scooter travel before it comes to rest?

v2 – u2 = 2as
S = v2 – u2/2a
= (0 - 252)/ 2 x3.125
= 100 m

6 . a)How does the gravitational force changes if distance between two objects is doubled.
b) Why do we not feel gravitational force between us and a person sitting closely?
Ans: a) Gravitational force becomes one- fourth.

b) Gravitational force is a weak force unless large masses are involved. The masses of humans
are quite small and thus the magnitude of gravitational force is also very small and negligible as
compared to that shown by Earth. Thus, gravitational force exists between two people sitting
close by but it is negligible and cannot be felt.

7. The weight of the body is 50N. What is its mass?

Ans: W = 50 N
g= 9.8 m/s2

8. Write the Statements of the following laws.

● Newton’s First law of motion
● Newton’s Second law of motion
● Newton’s third law of motion
● Universal law of gravitation
