Module I: Indian Knowledge System

Module: I
Introduction:

This module helps us understand India's ancient wisdom, skills, culture, and
philosophies.
It explains how people in India learned, lived, and thought deeply about life thousands
of years ago.

By studying this module, we will learn:

 Ancient Indian ways of learning and knowledge systems.


 Different types of arts, crafts, philosophies, and literature in India.
 How ancient Indian ideas are useful even in today's world.

This knowledge helps us respect and appreciate Indian culture, and also guides us to
live wisely, happily, and peacefully.

1. Caturdasa Vidyasthanam (Fourteen Branches of Knowledge)

 Ancient India had 14 main subjects for study, like languages, mathematics,
medicine, and philosophy.
 Real-Life Benefit: Understanding these helps us see how our ancestors had deep
knowledge in many subjects, useful even today.

2. 64 Kalas (64 Arts and Skills)

 Indians learned 64 different skills, like singing, dancing, cooking, painting, and
making jewelry.
 Example: Learning to cook tasty food or drawing beautiful pictures.
 Real-Life Benefit: Helps us develop creativity and practical life skills.

3. Shilpa Sastra (Science of Art and Architecture)

5. Vedanga (Subjects Related to the Vedas)

6. Indian Philosophical Systems

 Different ways Indians understood life, truth, God, and reality.

7. Vedic Schools of Philosophy:

a) Sankhya and Yoga:

 Sankhya teaches about nature and mind clearly.


 Yoga teaches us to control body, mind, and emotions.

b) Nyaya and Vaisesika:

 Nyaya is logic and reasoning.
