Assignment - Lesson - 16

The assignment investigates the flow and thermal behavior of water through an elbow section using ANSYS 23 R2 software. It analyzes the mixing of water at different temperatures and velocities, revealing that the outlet water is hotter and fluid velocities peak at the corners due to pressure variations. The conclusion suggests redesigning the inlet for improved mixing and flow patterns.

RESULTS
Temperature contour Velocity contour

From the temperature contour, the water from inlet2 mixes with the water from
inlet 1. these two water passage at different inlet temperature and inlet velocity
makes the outlet water more hotter. It is noticed that the velocities of fluid reaches
maximum at the corners.

RESULTS
Pressure contour Velocity vector

It is noticed that the velocities of fluid reaches maximum at the upper corners
where low pressure region is formed and vice versa at the bottom corner

CONCLUSION

From the results , it would be suggested to increase the cross-sectional of the

inlet 2 for better mixing and also sudden enlargement on inlet 2 pipe affects flow
patterns and that can be avoided by redesigning the funnel shaped joint
(gradual increment in cross section)
