We read in newspapers that efforts are always being made to improve production from
agriculture and animal husbandry. Why is this necessary? Why we cannot make do with
the current levels of production? India is a very populous country. Our population is more
than one billion people, and it is still growing. As food for this growing population, we will
soon need more than a quarter of a billion tonnes of grain every year. Therefore, it is
necessary to increase our production efficiency for both crops and livestock.

bee-keeping? (Any two points)
(c) Inter-cropping and crop rotation are different ways to grow crops. How these methods
can be used to give maximum benefit.

39 While designing a concert hall proper 4
care of the phenomenon of reflection
and absorption of sound should be
taken. Otherwise, the listener will not be
able to listen the sound clearly. There
may be some regions in the hall where
sound is not reaching with the required
intensity and there maybe some other
regions where the intensity of sound is
too high. Large semi-circular wooden
board is fixed behind the speaker with
the speaker standing at the centre. The
walls and the ceilings too, are curved
appropriately to ensure sound reaches
all the corners of the hall.
Answer the following questions:
(a) How are intensity and loudness of sound different? Write their units of
measurements too.
(b) Draw a sound wave and show the areas of compressions and rarefactions.
(c) Why does the artist stand at a particular place while performing in the concerts?
OR
(c) What arrangement(s) are made to avoid any echo from the walls of the concert
during these events?
