The Arts and Crafts Exhibition of the Daachi Foundation, organized on February 8 and 9,
2025, in Lahore, presented a collage of Pakistan's cultural heritage. This SWOT analysis
assesses the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of the exhibition and also points
to its development over the years.
Strengths:
Increasing Popularity:
The event has witnessed increased attendance over the years. For example, in 2016, the event
had more than 10,000 visitors, reflecting increasing public interest in traditional crafts and arts.
Artisan Support:
The Foundation provides artisans with transportation, free stalls, and accommodation to ensure
that even artisans from distant locations can take part without costs. This assistance creates
economic opportunities and supports the conservation of traditional crafts.
Weaknesses
Venue Restrictions:
Previous exhibitions have also encountered limitations of venue space. For instance, in 2019,
the event took place in a basement, causing congestion because of massive visitor attendance.
Having sufficient space is very important for exhibitors as well as visitors.
Weather Effects:
The 2019 show faced heavy rainfall, which might have impacted visitation and the experience
as a whole. Weather-disrupted outdoor events are at risk, necessitating contingency planning.
Opportunities:
Collaborations:
It is possible to organize workshops, skill development activities, and joint projects in
association with schools and cultural bodies, strengthening the artisan community and
providing learning experiences to the audience.
Threats:
Cultural wearing:
Invasion by mass-produced articles and changing consumer attitudes are the biggest threats to
traditional crafts. Public education efforts need to go on in an effort to tell people the value of
culturally significant handmade products.
Economic Challenges:
Economic fluctuations can affect both the production capacity of artisans and the purchasing
capacity of consumers, which can influence participation in exhibitions and sales.
Logistical Hurdles:
Organizing participation from artisans from all over Pakistan entails overcoming logistical
challenges such as transportation, accommodation, and the safety of participants and their
products.
Evolution:
From its conception in 2010, the Daachi Foundation's annual shows have increased in size and
reach. The size of artisan participation as well as visitor turnout has grown, an indicator of the
growing interest in traditional craft. The Foundation's dedication to the empowerment of
artisans through complimentary stalls and lodging has not wavered, fostering equity. The
establishment of a permanent artisan village in the pipeline is a key highlight, seeking to offer
artisans constant support and a dependable platform across the country.
In sum, the exhibitions of the Daachi Foundation have emerged as a cornerstone in protecting
and showcasing Pakistan's rich tradition of artisanal crafts. Addressing challenges and
capturing new opportunities, the Foundation keeps building its impact, and traditional crafts
flourish in modern times.
