types of circulation

The document outlines three types of circulation in the human body: coronary circulation, pulmonary circulation, and systemic circulation. Each type includes its pathways, key parts, and associated disorders, such as coronary artery disease and pulmonary hypertension. The document emphasizes the importance of these circulatory systems in supplying oxygen and nutrients to the heart and body while removing waste products.

Three Types of Circulation in the Human Body

1. Coronary Circulation – Heart's Own Blood Supply

 Even though the heart pumps blood to the whole body, it also needs its own supply of
oxygen and nutrients to stay strong and keep beating.
 Coronary arteries bring oxygen-rich blood to the heart muscle.
 Coronary veins remove the used-up blood (deoxygenated blood) and waste from the
heart.

📌 Key Parts:

 Right Coronary Artery (RCA) – supplies the right part of the heart.
 Left Coronary Artery (LCA) – splits into:
o LAD – supplies the front part of the heart.
o LCX – supplies the side and back part of the heart.
 Coronary Sinus – the main vein that collects all used blood and sends it back to the
heart.

💔 Disorders:

 Coronary Artery Disease – arteries get blocked.

 Angina – chest pain due to low oxygen.
 Heart Attack – when part of the heart muscle dies.
 Heart Failure – when the heart can’t pump blood well.

2. Pulmonary Circulation – Heart to Lungs and Back

 This system takes used blood (low in oxygen) from the heart to the lungs to pick up
fresh oxygen and remove carbon dioxide.

🛣 Pathway:

1. Right atrium → Right ventricle → Pulmonary arteries → Lungs.

2. In the lungs: blood gets oxygen and releases carbon dioxide.
3. Oxygen-rich blood returns to the left atrium via pulmonary veins.

📌 Key Parts:

 Right side of heart – sends used blood to lungs.

 Lungs – where gas exchange happens (in alveoli).
 Left side of heart – gets oxygenated blood back.
💔 Disorders:

 Pulmonary Hypertension – high pressure in lung arteries.

 Pulmonary Embolism – blockage in a lung artery.
 COPD – lung problem that slows gas exchange.
 Pulmonary Edema – fluid in the lungs.

3. Systemic Circulation – Heart to Whole Body

 This is the main circulation system. It sends oxygenated blood from the heart to all
body parts, and brings back used blood to the heart.

🛣 Pathway:

1. Left atrium → Left ventricle → Aorta → Body.

2. In body tissues: oxygen goes in, carbon dioxide comes out.
3. Used blood returns to the right atrium via veins.

📌 Key Parts:

 Left side of heart – pumps blood to body.

 Arteries – carry fresh blood.
 Capillaries – exchange gases and nutrients.
 Veins – bring back used blood.

💔 Disorders:

 High BP – damages organs.

 Atherosclerosis – clogged arteries.
 Stroke – blood flow stops in the brain.
 Aneurysm – blood vessel wall becomes weak.
