ASTER PUBLIC SCHOOL, GREATER NOIDA

ASSIGNMENT: - DETERMINANTS
CLASS XII
SUBJECT: MATHEMATICS
S. No QUESTIONS Answers
1 Solve the following system of equations, using matrix method. 𝒙 = −𝟔
𝑥 − 2𝑦 − 4 = 0; −3𝑥 + 5𝑦 = −7 𝒚 = −𝟓

2 Solve the following system of equations, using matrix method. 𝒙=𝟐

𝒙 + 𝟐𝒚 + 𝒛 = 𝟕 ; 𝒙 + 𝟑𝒛 = 𝟏𝟏 ; 𝟐𝒙 − 𝟑𝒚 = 𝟏. 𝒚=𝟏
𝒛= 𝟑
3 𝟏 𝟐 −𝟑 𝒙=𝟑
Find 𝑨−𝟏 , where A = [𝟐 𝟑 𝟐 ]. Hence Solve the system of equations 𝒚 = −𝟐
𝟑 −𝟑 −𝟒 𝒛= 𝟏
𝒙 + 𝟐𝒚 − 𝟑 𝒛 = −𝟒 ; 𝟐 𝒙 + 𝟑𝒚 + 𝟐 𝒛 = 𝟐 ; 𝟑 𝒙 − 𝟑𝒚 − 𝟒𝒛 = 𝟏𝟏.

4 𝟏 −𝟏 `𝟏 𝒙 = 𝟗/𝟓
If A = [ 𝟐 𝟏 −𝟑 ] , find 𝑨−𝟏 and hence Solve the system of equations 𝒚 = 𝟐/𝟓
𝟏 𝟏 𝟏 𝒛 = 𝟕/𝟓
𝒙 + 𝟐𝒚 + 𝒛 = 𝟒 ; − 𝒙 + 𝒚 + 𝒛 = 𝟎 ; 𝒙 − 𝟑𝒚 + 𝒛 = 𝟐.

5 𝟐 −𝟑 𝟓 𝒙=𝟏
If A = [𝟑 𝟐 −𝟒], find 𝑨−𝟏 and hence Solve the system of equations 𝒚=𝟐
𝟏 𝟏 −𝟐 𝒛= 𝟑
𝟐𝒙 − 𝟑𝒚 + 𝟓𝒛 = 𝟏𝟏; −𝟑𝒙 − 𝟐𝒚 + 𝟒𝒛 = 𝟓; 𝒙 + 𝒚 − 𝟐𝒛 = −𝟑
6 −𝟒 𝟒 𝟒 𝟏 −𝟏 𝟏 𝒙=𝟑
Determine the product [ −𝟕 𝟏 𝟑 ] [ 𝟏 −𝟐 −𝟐 ] and use it to Solve the system 𝒚 = −𝟐
𝟓 −𝟑 −𝟏 𝟐 𝟏 𝟑 𝒛 = −𝟏
of equations: 𝒙 − 𝒚 + 𝒛 = 𝟒 ; 𝒙 − 𝟐𝒚 − 𝟐𝒛 = 𝟗 ; 𝟐𝒙 + 𝒚 + 𝟑𝒛 = 𝟏.

7 Solve the following system of equations, using matrix method. 𝒙 = 𝟏/𝟐

𝟐 𝟑 𝟑 𝟏 𝟏 𝟏 𝟑 𝟏 𝟐 𝒚 = 𝟏/𝟑
− 𝒚 + 𝒛 = 10, + 𝒚 + 𝒛 = 10, − 𝒚 + 𝒛 = 13
𝒙 𝒙 𝒙 𝒛 = 𝟏/𝟓

8 𝟐 𝟐 −𝟒 𝟏 −𝟏 𝟎 𝒙=𝟐
Given A = [−𝟒 𝟐 −𝟒] , B = [𝟐 𝟑 𝟒], find BA and use it to solve equations 𝒚 = −𝟏
𝟐 −𝟏 𝟓 𝟎 𝟏 𝟐 𝒛= 𝟒
𝒚 + 𝟐𝒛 = 𝟕 ; 𝒙 − 𝒚 = 𝟑; 𝟐𝒙 + 𝟑𝒚 + 𝟒𝒛 = 𝟏𝟕

9 −𝟑 −𝟐 −𝟒 𝟏 𝟐 𝟎 𝒙=𝟏
If A = [ 𝟐 𝟏 𝟐 ], B = [−𝟐 −𝟏 −𝟐] find AB and use it to solve equations 𝒚 = −𝟏
𝟐 𝟏 𝟑 𝟎 −𝟏 𝟏 𝒛= 𝟏
𝒙 − 𝟐𝒚 = 𝟑; 𝟐𝒙 − 𝒚 − 𝒛 = 𝟐; −𝟐𝒚 + 𝒛 = 𝟑

10 The sum of three numbers is 2. If twice the second number is added to the sum of 1, −𝟏, 𝟐
first and third, the sum is 1. By adding second and third number to five times the
first number, we get 6. Find three numbers using matrix method.
11 A school wants to award its students for the values of Honesty, Regularity and Hard work with 500
a total cash award of Rs. 6000. Three times the award money for Hard work added to that 2000
given for honesty amounts to Rs. 11000. The award money given for Honesty and Hard work
3500
together is double the one given for Regularity. Represent the above situation algebraically and
find the award for each value, using the matrix method. Apart from these values, namely,
Honesty, Regularity, and Hard work, suggest one more value which the school must include for
awards.
12 An amount of Rs 5000 is deposited in three different banks with interest 6%, 7% and 1000
8% per annum respectively. The total annual interest from these investments is Rs 2200
358. If the total annual interest from first two investments is Rs 70 more than interest 1800
the of the third, find the amount of each investment by the matrix method.
