(f) Non-programmable silent electronic calculators and KNEC Mathematical tables
may be used, except where stated otherwise.

SECTION I (50 Marks)
1. The cash price of a cooker is Ksh 40 000. Ryan bought in on hire purchase by paying a deposit of Ksh
4 000 and the rest in 36 equal monthly instalments. If he was charged simple interest at the rate of
20% per annum, calculate the amount of each instalment. (3 marks)
2. The diagram below shows an ogive of the heights of 40 trees measured to the nearest meter.

3. Truncate 45986 correct to 2 significant figures. Hence calculate the percentage error arising from

14. Three grades of tea A, B and C were mixed in the ratio 2:3:4 respectively. The cost per kilogram of
grade A is Ksh 150, grade B is Ksh 140 and grade C is Ksh 90. Find the selling price of 12 kg of the
mixture given that the mixture was sold at 15% profit. (3 marks)

15. Find the equation of a circle whose diameter has the end point (-2,5) and (4,1). Giving your answer in
the form: 𝑥 + 𝑦 + 𝑎𝑥 + 𝑏𝑦 + 𝑐 = 0. (3marks)

18. (a) Four quantities P, Q, R and T are such that P varies directly as the square root of the sum of Q
and R and inversely as T. Quantities Q and R are each increased by 44 % while the quantity T is
decreased by 4 % .Find the corresponding percentage change in P. (4 marks)
(b) the cost C of producing n items varies partly as n and partly as the inverse of n. To produce two
items, it costs Ksh. 270 and to produce three items, it costs Ksh. 280. Find:

In November 2023, Silas earned a basic salary of Sh. 38 320. In addition, he was entitled to a

also has tax relief of Sh. 1 480 monthly.
