Spelling rules
1. For verbs that end in silent "e" -> Remove the "e". Add -ing
*MAKE (HACER) -> MAKING
*TAKE (TOMAR) -> TAKING
*GIVE (DAR) -> GIVING
*DRIVE (CONDUCIR) -> DRIVING
*DANCE (BAILAR) --> DANCING.

1) She is making a cake for the guests. (Ella está preparando un pastel para los invitados)
2) They are taking the bus to go to school (a la escuela) / at school (en la escuela)
3) She is giving the presents for Christmas. (Ella está entregando los regalos de navidad...)
4) He is driving very fast. (Él está manejando muy rápido)
5) He is dancing with his wife. (Él está bailando con su esposa)
Spelling rules
2. For verbs that end in: "x", "y", "k", "w"-> -ing

*FIX (ARREGLAR) -> FIXING. 1. Adam is fixing his car at the moment.
*CRY (LLORAR) -> CRYING 2. She is crying because/ due to / because of /
*STUDY (ESTUDIAR) -> STUDYING owing to (debido a) / since she failed the exam.
*DRINK (BEBER) -> DRINKING 3. Maria is working very hard because she wants
*WORK (TRABAJAR) -> WORKING to earn a lot of money.
*DRAW (DIBUJAR) --> DRAWING 4. She is working so hard to win the contest.
*GROW (CRECER) -> GROWING
5. She goes to the Gym to gain weight (Ella va al

3. For verbs that end in consonant + vowel + consonant and the last
syllable is stressed. Double the last consonant and add -ing.

*CHAT (Chatear) --> CHATTING 3) My daughter is swimming at the pool.
*PUT (Poner) --> PUTTING
*GET (Obtener) --> GETTTING
*SWIM (Nadar) --> SWIMMMING
*FORGET (Olvidar) --> FORGETTING

4. For verbs that end in consonant + vowel + consonant and the last
syllable is NOT stressed. We add -ing

*HAPPEN (SUCEDER) --> HAPPENING.

*VISIT --> VISITING. --> VISITING.

1. Use the present continuous with normal verbs to express the idea that
something is happening now, at this very moment. (Ongoing actions)

What are you doing now? --> YOU’RE STUDYING ENGLISH.

She is studying English at the moment.

2. Sometimes, speakers use the present continuous to indicate that
something will or will not happen in the near future.

We are eating dinner after work.


I am watching a movie after the English class.
The boy is playing videogames after studying.
He is taking a shower after playing soccer / doing his homework.
The boy is playing soccer after school. (Lesly)
He is swimming after class.
They are visiting their parents on Friday.
We are presenting the exam tomorrow / next week.

3. Temporary situations:
