Assignment 4 Velocity and acceleration Analysis

The document contains a series of engineering assignment questions focused on kinematics and mechanisms, including classifications of instantaneous centers, Kennedy's theorem, and calculations of velocities and accelerations in various mechanical systems. Specific problems involve the analysis of four-link mechanisms, toggle mechanisms, and slider-crank mechanisms using methods such as the I-Center method and relative velocity method. Each question requires detailed calculations based on given dimensions and rotational speeds of the links.

Assignment 4

Q.1 Classify and explain different types of instantaneous centres?

Q.2 State and explain Kennedy’s theorem
Q.3 For the four-link mechanism shown in figure below, find the linear velocities of sliders C
and D and the angular velocities of links AC and BD using the I-Center method and relative
velocity method.

Q4. A toggle mechanism as shown in Figure below along with the dimensions of the links in
mm. find the velocities of the links in mm. Find the velocities of the points B and C and the
angular velocities of links AB, BQ and BC. The crank rotates at 50 rpm in the clockwise
direction. Solve using both I-center method and relative velocity method.

Q.5 The mechanism, as shown in Figure below the slider D is constrained to move on a
horizontal path. The crank OA is rotating in the counter clockwise direction at a speed of 180
r.p.m. The dimensions of various links are as follows: OA = 180 mm; CB= 240 mm; AB = 360
mm; and BD = 540 mm. For the given configuration, Determine Velocity and acceleration of
slider D.
Q.6 In the mechanism shown in figure, the crank OA rotates at 60 rpm. Determine the linear
acceleration of the slider at B and angular acceleration of the links AC, CQD and BD.

Q.7 For the configuration of slider crank mechanism shown in figure below calculate the (i)
acceleration of slider B, (ii) acceleration of point E, (iii) angular acceleration of the link AB.
OA rotates at 20 rad/sec counter clockwise. (OA-480 mm, AB-1600mm, AE-450mm)
