WISE USER'S MANUAL, MERWEDE 7716

This is a manual for Wärtsilä Power Plants WISE (Wärtsilä Information System Environment)
applications. The purpose of WISE is, to calculate, save and show the important measurement
values for production and engine condition follow-up, as well as for long term diagnostics for the
engine. WISE gets its values from the WOIS (Wärtsilä Operator’s Interface System). This
manual describes the parts of WISE, how it is configured, the different displays and how to use
the system. Regarding hardware, (monitors, printers etc.) the manufacturer’s manuals need to

1. WISE in General

The Wärtsilä reporting system consists of two parts, the calculating part and the viewing part.
WGDI (Wärtsilä Generic Data Interface) calculates the required values for each measurement and
saves them to a database. The program named WISE shows these values.

WGDI uses SOLID™ (Solid Information Technology Oy) as database for storing of measurements,
values and calculations. The Viewing program, Wise is connected to the SOLID™ database. Data
source to WGDI is WOIS workstation.

The report calculating part starts automatically, when the WOIS computer is started. The WISE
viewing part starts automatically when WISE workstation is started.

2. Starting the WISE Workstation

If WISE is included in the WOIS workstation, are all reporting related programs automatically
started when the WOIS programs are started. If WISE is provided in a stand-alone computer, the
needed programs will be started automatically when that computer is started. Before turning the
computer on, make sure that the communication cables and power supply cables are connected to
the computer.

Warning!! Do not make any connection changes (printer, key, etc.) when the computer is
turned on.

When started, WGDI will establish contact with the WOIS. Thereafter, WGDI will start calculating
process data. WISE is responsible to show calculated report values. Connection to the SOLID
database is created always when the operator asks for any report.
The operating system is object oriented and thus easy to learn. When you point on an object with
the mouse, clicking with the left button on the mouse will get you another picture or function.

3. Displays

WISE includes a number of various displays for viewing the reports. When WISE is started will
the Main Menu/Plant overview display be the first to appear. The hierarchy of the report
displays is shown in the Figure 1. WISE main menu has ‘smart’ scroll so when moving mouse
to left on the screen WISE main menu appears. This scrolling isn’t report dependent.

The reporting system consists of production, engine, common report, and logbook. displays.
Production reports show the values connected to the consumption of fuel and the production of
electricity or heat. They are calculated for four time periods: day, month, year. In the engine
report, daily average, minimum and maximum data is presented. In the common report the
important data for the common part of the power plant is shown. Logbook saves starts and
stops and keeps event logs entered by the operator. After the report station is started, the
main menu is always started and default window is "Plant Overview". It is automatically
activated. From the main menu the desired report can be selected.

appears.

The report picture layout consists of four parts. Below that is the report header area, including the
following information:

− Project name
− Engine number
− Report type
− Date
− Screen updated date and time

The report type field shows the selected report: production, engine report and so on. The date for
calculated values is shown in the date field. Screen updated means the time when the report
values were updated .
Date means the date for the shown data and screen updated date, the date when the report was
printed to the screen.

The menu set is located at the left of the display and appears automatically when operator moves
mouse to left. The selections available can be seen by moving the mouse pointer onto a tree-view
menu. The menu set may vary depending on the report type or the project.

Between the report header area and the menu set at the bottom of the display, the report data is
shown.

Question marks are shown if no values for the report are found.

13. Troubleshooting

If something seems to be out of order, try the following:

1. The WISE workstation will not start

- Check that the power cable is connected both to the workstation and the monitor and that
the cable in between is connected.
- Check that the power switch is in the ON-state both in the workstation and the monitor
- Reboot the workstation
- The monitor displays “IDE DEVICE ERROR…” See Item 5.

2. The WISE workstation computer starts, but the WISE program does not start
- Check that the network cables are connected to the correct ports (Plant network cable to
the plant network board etc.).
- Check that the passwords are correct (Usernamefield/Passwordfield).
- Reboot the workstation

3. Some measurements are lost or the display shows strange values

- Check that the plant network cables are connected throughout the system and that the
cabling is unbroken.
- Reboot the WISE workstation
- Reboot WOIS station.

4. Values missing after power loss

If the WISE or WOIS station is not shut down as mentioned in chapter 11, reporting data will be
lost. The amount of lost data varies from one to 10 hours. This is due to normal operation of the
database server therefore always shutdown the WISE and WOIS station according to instructions
in chapter 11, if needed.

5. PC has stopped and/or the monitor displays e.g. “IDE DEVICE ERROR…”
The hard disk has been damaged and the hard disk has to be replaced, contact nearest Wärtsilä
representative.
