SECTION A: (50 MARKS)

5. Find the area of the right trapezium whose parallel sides measures 9cm and 15cm and the

6. A Kenyan business man bought goods from Japan worth 2,950,000 Japanese Yen. On
arrival in Kenya, custom duty of 20% was charged on the value of goods. If the exchange
rates were as follows:
1 US Dollar = 118 Japanese Yen
1 US Dollar = 76 Kenyan Shillings
Calculate the duty paid in Kenyan Shillings. (4mks)
7. Evaluate the following using tables of cubes, squares and reciprocals. (3mks)

12. Three strings of length 200cm, 300cm and 360cm are cut into pieces.
(a) Find the largest possible length of the pieces. (2mks)

(b) How many pieces would they be altogether? (1mk)

13. Kagondo bought 320 pineapples at sh.50 for every 4 pineapples. When she reached the
market, she discovered that 10% of the pineapples were at sh.100 for every 6 pineapples.
Calculate the percentage profit she made. (3mks)
14. Without using mathematical table or calculator, evaluate: (3mks)

15. Sixteen men can make 800 pots in 9 days. How many more days will 15 men take to
make 1000 pots working at the same rate? (3mks)

16. Using a ruler and a pair of compasses, construct triangle ABC, with AB=7cm, AC=6cm
and triangle CAB=30º. Drop a perpendicular from C to meet AB at M. Measure length
CM. (3mks)
SECTION B: (50 MARKS)

17. A motor vehicle dealer bought 2 Toyota vehicles and 3 Honda vehicles for a total of
Ksh.8 million. In another transaction, the dealer bought one Toyota and one Honda for a
total of Ksh.3 million. The dealer later sold all the vehicles and made a profit of 30% on
Toyota and 25% on Honda vehicles.

(a) By taking x to be Toyota vehicles and y to be Honda vehicles, write two equations to
represent the information above. (2mks)

(b) Determine the cost of buying each type of vehicle. (3mks)

(c) Calculate the total amount of money the dealer received after selling all the vehicles.
(2mks)

(d) Determine the total percentage profit the dealer made after selling all vehicles. (3mks)
18. A line L passes through points (-2,3) and (-1,6) and perpendicular to a line P at (-1,6)
(a) Find the equation of line L in the form y=mx+c. (2mks)

(b) Find the equation of line P in the form ax+by=c, where a, b and c are constant. (3mks)

(c) Given that another line Q is parallel to L and passes through point (1,2), write the
equation of Q in the form of y=mx+c. (2mks)

(d) Find the point of intersection of lines P and Q. (3mks)


19. Ship B is on bearing of 080º from port A and at distance of 95km. Another ship is
stationed at port D which is on a bearing of 200º from A and a distance of 124km from B.
A ship leaves B and moves directly to island P which is on a bearing of 190 from B and
110km from A.

(a) Using a scale of 1cm to represent 10km, make a scale drawing to show the relative
positions of A, B, D and P. (4mks)

(b) Hence find;

(i) The distance from A to D. (2mks)

(ii) The bearing of D from B. (1mk)

(iii) The distance and bearing of P from D. (2mks)

(iv) The distance from P to B. (1mk)


20. A model of a swimming pool shown below. It has a length of 35 m and width 24 m,
AD=2.5 m and BC=1.1 m.

(a) The capacity of water in the swimming pool in litres. (4mks)

(b) The surface area of the swimming pool in M². (4mks)

(c) The wall of the pool in-contact with water was to be painted one litre paints is
required to paint the pool. Give your answer to nearest whole number. (2mks)
21. (a) Triangle PQR with P (2,1), Q (1,3) and R (3,4) is reflected in the line y=0 to give
triangle P¹ Q¹ R¹. Draw triangle PQR and its image. (3mks)

(b) Triangle P¹Q¹R¹ is then reflected in the line y=x to give triangle P¹¹ Q¹¹ R¹¹. Draw
triangle P¹¹ Q¹¹ R¹¹. (2mks)
(c) Triangle P¹¹ Q¹¹ R¹¹ is rotated under +90 about (0,0) . Draw triangle P¹¹¹ Q¹¹¹ R¹¹¹ the
image of P¹¹ Q¹¹ R¹¹ and state its co-ordinates. (2mks)

(d) Describe a single transformation that maps P Q R on to P¹¹¹ Q¹¹¹ R¹¹¹. (1mk)

(e) What type of congruency does the following triangles portray:


(i) Triangle P¹¹ QƆ¹¹ R¹¹ and triangle P¹¹¹ Q¹¹¹ R¹¹¹ (1mk)

(ii) Triangle P Q R and triangle P¹ Q¹ R¹ (1mk)
