Guidelines on CDP Final Individual Report
Undergraduates in the Department of Civil Engineering should follow these guidelines to
submit the CDP final individual report. The final copies of the report will not be accepted, if
the students have not prepared the report according to the following guidelines.

Instructions
01. Number of Copies

Each student must submit a printed copy to the CDP instructor and upload the soft copy
to Moodle.

02. Page Limit and the Format

The total length of the report should not exceed 20 pages and 30 pages with Annexes.

2.1. International A4 white paper should be used. Other paper sizes may be used if
required (e.g.: for maps) on the instructions of the supervisor.
2.2. The report to be submitted to the moodle should be word-processed and single-
sided. In general, one-and-a-half (1.5) line spacing is required with justified
paragraphs.

2.3. A conventional font type must be used and the text should be in Times New
Roman.

• Chapter heading: All Capital — 16 Font size, Bold

• Section heading: Title case - 14 Font size, Bold

• Sub-section heading: Title case - 12 Font size, Bold

• Body text: Sentence case - 12 Font size

• Tables and Illustrations: Font size may be varied while maintaining legibility.
Minimum – 8 Font Size

2.4. Margins of 30 mm on the left, 15 mm right, top & bottom should be used (1.2” &
0.6”)

03. Pagination
Each page should have page numbers except the ―Title page. Lower case Roman
numerals should be assigned centred at the bottom of the page to all ―preliminary
pages‖ (Refer Appendix II; i - ix in content page). Pagination of the body text and
appendices is to be in Arabic numerals centred at the right bottom of the page. The
pagination begins with the first page of the first chapter and continues throughout the
rest of the text.

04. Tables and Illustrations

Figures include diagrams, graphs, sketches, photographs and maps. Figures are labelled
at the bottom, and tables at the top. Figures and tables should be numbered according
to the major section where they appear (as Table 4 is the second table in section 3 of
this document, it would become Table 3.2). All figures and tables must be referred to
in the text (e.g. ‘see Figure 14’). Figures and tables can be separated from the text with
extra line spacing.

Refer to the sample attached in the format document.

05. Photographs

High-quality coloured or black-and-white photographs or reprints with sufficient

clarity may be incorporated. Photographs with glossy finish and dark backgrounds
should be avoided where possible. State “Original in Colour” in the title where colour
is used.

06. References

The 7th edition of the American Psychological Association (APA) Referencing style
should be followed.

The APA citation format requires parenthetical citations within the text instead of
endnotes or footnotes. Citations in the text provide brief information, the name of the
author and the year of publication, to lead the reader to find the source of information
in the reference list at the end of the paper

The instructions on referencing style can be found in the following link.
