Class 10 Bio Assignment 1 Final
Biology assignment
Topic- Nutrition and Respiration
SECTION A
1. Haemoglobin and Chlorophyll have similar structures.
- A molecule of haemoglobin is composed of the atoms of four elements- carbon,
hydrogen, oxygen and nitrogen, all four organized around iron.
- A Chlorophyll is composed of the same elements, which are organized around
magnesium.
- Considering the above information, which element of Haemoglobin is most likely
responsible for the red color of our blood?
a) Hydrogen
b) Nitrogen
c) Carbon
d) Iron
2. Which row in the table below shows the correct products of anaerobic respiration in
the humans and yeast?
a) P
b) Q
c) R
d) S
5. The image shows the process of making food by a plant.
After 10 minutes, the student observes that the student observes that the candle in flask
A extinguish faster while in flask B keeps burning for a longer time. What can be
evaluated from this experiment?
a) Candle produces high amount of carbon dioxide
b) Living beings consume oxygen during respiration
c) Burning of candle decreases the life span of cockroach
d) Water vapours produced by living beings prevent burning of candle
10. In the given diagram of a closed stomata 1,2,3 and 4 respectively are
13. Which of the following statements are correct in reference to the role of A (shown in
the figure) during a breathing cycle in human beings?
SECTION D
1. A) During photosynthesis, light energy is converted into chemical energy.
R) There is reduction of CO2 to form carbohydrates.
2. A) Stomata function as turgor operated valves.
R) On becoming turgid, guard cells create a pore in between them.
3. A) Food from stomach passes into duodenum in small amounts through a sphincter
muscle in pylorus.
R) It helps in quick neutralization of acidity of the food coming from stomach.
4. A) ATP functions as energy currency of living beings.
R) It picks up energy where available and deposits the same where required.
5. A) The surface area for respiration is thin, delicate and very large.
R) A quicker exchange of gases is possible only through a large surface area.
6. A) Oxygen is transported by haemoglobin of RBCs.
R) CO2 is mostly transported in dissolved form.
SECTION E
CASE STUDY 1
Reeta conducted an experiment to examine photosynthesis in aquatic plants kept in a
tank by measuring dissolved oxygen. She plotted her results in the following graph X:
She repeated the experiment while covering the tank with an opaque black cloth. She
plotted the results in the following graph Y:
CASE STUDY 2
Human digestive system is a tube running from mouth to anus. Its main function is to
breakdown complex molecules present in the food which cannot be absorbed as such
into smaller molecules. These molecules are absorbed across the walls of the tube and
the absorbed food reaches each and every cell of the body where it is utilized for
obtaining energy.
Answer questions 1 to 4 based on your understanding of above paragraph.
1) Name the glands present in buccal cavity and write the components of food on
which the secretion of these glands act upon.
2) Two organs have the sphincter muscle at their exit. Name them.
3) What will happen if mucus is not secreted by the gastric glands?
4) What will the consequences if villi are absent in the small intestine?
