Q.

44 (a) Belief in the oneness of God (Tawheed) is a fundamental

aspect of Faith. State how tawhid benefits Muslims in their everyday
life: (10)
Tawhid is the first article of faith. Tawhid is an Arabic term that means
"oneness" and "unity". In Islam, it means the oneness of Allah. The
declaration "There is no God but Allah" is called tawhid. Allah says in the
Holy Quran, "And your God is one God: there is no god but He, most
Gracious, most Merciful." (2:163)

Tawheed can be divided into 3 categories: Tawheed Ar Rububiyyah

(Maintaining the unity of Lordship), Tawheed Al Uluhiyyah (Maintaining
the unity of Allah's Worship), and lastly Tawheed AlAsma Wa Sifat
(Maintaining the unity of Allah's Names and Attributes).

Tawheed Ar Rububiyyah (Maintaining the unity of Lordship),

emphasizes that Allah is one and there is nobody like him. He has no
partners: He never begets nor He is begotten: He is ever-living, self-
subsisting, and eternal: He has always existed and will always exist: He has
no beginning or end. Allah says, "Say, "He is Allah, the One and only:
Allah, the eternal, absolute; He does not beget, nor is He begotten; And
there is none like Him." (Surah Al-Ikhlas) The Quran says, "He is the
Originator of the heavens and the earth" (2:117). These symbolize
Allah's Throne and Power. "Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds.
"(1:1)

Tawheed Al Uluhiyyah is an Arabic term for the worship of Allah.

This means the dedication of all acts of the servants are for Allah alone,
including: Prayers, Dua' (Supplication), asking help, seeking refuge, fear,
hope, reliance, sawe, vowing, dread and turning in repentance, and all other
forms of Ibadah (Worship).
This emphasizes muslims to perform all acts of worship for Allah.
Allah says in the Quran "I did not create jinn and humans except to
worship Me."(51:56).

Tawheed AlAsma Wa Sifat (Maintaining the unity of Allah's Names

and Attributes) is to believe in all of Allah's Names and Attributes. Allah
has 99 names, all His attributes are perfect. It affirms that He is
incomparable and unique. Unity of His names and Attributes should be
maintained ie. Allah must be referred according to how He and His prophet
have described Him without giving Him any new names or Attributes. The
Quran says: "Allah, there is no god "worthy of worship' except Him.
He has the Most Beautiful Names."(Surah Ta Ha, 8). The names and
attributes are for Him alone and cannot be used for His creation, humans,
animals, birds, etc.
Tawhid reminds man to worship Allah as He is the only one worthy of
worship and that He is there when man is in distress or pain. It makes man
patient. It deepens the connection with the lord as he realizes His Powers,
attributes, and names. Man tries to please his Lord with all his sincere
worship. Believing in Allah helps him overcome any difficulty that comes
to pass.
Along with self-respect, this belief also generates in man a sense of
modesty and humbleness. A believer never becomes proud, haughty, or
arrogant because he knows that whatever he possesses has been given to
him by Allah and that Allah can take away whatever He wishes.

May Allah guide us to the right path and protect us from shirk. Ameen!

Note: You may choose to add the following references in your
answer:

Surah Al-Baqarah, Ayat 21: "O mankind, worship your Lord, who
created you and those before you, that you may become righteous"

Surah Al-Baqarah, Ayat 22: "[Hel who made for you the earth a
bed [spread out] and the sky a ceiling and sent down from the sky, rain
and brought forth thereby fruits as provision for you. So do not
attribute to Allah equals while you know [that there is nothing similar
to Himl"

Surah Al-Anaam, Aysh 102: "That is Allah, your Lord; there is no

deity except Him, the Creator of all things, so worship Him. And He is
Disposer of all things."

Surah Al-Ambiya, Ayah 25: "And We sent not before you any
messenger except that We revealed to him that, "There is no deity
except Me, so worship Me.'.
Q b) Why has Allah repeatedly warned Muslims against
shirk?

Islam enjoins the believers to worship One Allah Alone. Shirk literally
means 'sharing or associating partners'. In Islamic terms it means
associating partners with Allah in worship, acceptance of prophets as
gods, or the assumption that Almighty Allah has sons and daughters.
Shirk is strictly forbidden in Islam, and is regarded as the greatest of all
sins.
False gods will deny that they ever demanded their worship. They will
prove of no avail to their worshipers, rather they will disown them on the
Day of Judgement. The Holy Quran says, "And who is more astray than
he who invokes (gods) besides Allah who will not answer him on the
Day of Judgement and they (the false gods) are heedless of their
calls"(16:5).
Shirk is a disgrace and humiliation. It destroys the self respect and honour
of a person. Above all, it leads to the hellfire.
The Holy Quran says, "Whoever joins other gods with Allah, Allah
will forbid him the Garden (Paradise)…" (5.72).

Q. 44(b) Give reasons to support that without tawhid there is no

faith.

Tawheed, the belief in the oneness of Allah, is the cornerstone of the

Islamic faith. Without Tawheed, one's faith lacks its fundamental basis and
essence. Tawheed emphasizes the absolute uniqueness and sovereignty of
Allah, serving as the foundation for all Islamic beliefs and practices. It
instills a profound sense of monotheism, devotion, and submission to the
Creator.
Without Tawheed, faith becomes diluted, leading to the risk of falling
into shirk (associating partners with Allah). Therefore, Muslims should
attain strong faith in Allah to avoid such sins. We should acknowledge the
fact that Allah alone is the possessor of all power, and that no one except
him can cause benefit or harm, or give and take away life. So, we should
only bow down to Allah, and stretch our hands before Him only.
Surah Al-Ikhlas states, "Say: He is Allah, the One and Only; Allah,
the Eternal, Absolute; He does not beget, nor is He begotten; And there
is none like Him." This surah shows us that Allah is the absolute and
eternal, and that he alone deserves to be worshipped.
It is through Tawheed that faith is strengthened, actions are purified,
and the ultimate purpose of life is realized. Thus, without Tawheed, faith
loses its essence and significance in Islam.
