Welcome to eMAX!

Part A: General Information

A. Leveling will take place in March 2021. There is no leveling test, but all of your weekly performance, including
homework scores, will count.
B. Teachers will contact your parents if you do not complete homework or perform poorly.
C. If you have any questions regarding homework, send messages to your teacher by visiting www.edmax.co.kr (eMAX
homepage). If your teacher does not respond within 1 day give us a call at 02-568-0021.

Part B: How to do homework


1. Vocabulary (eMax Vocabulary 4.0 Textbook)
Study and memorize the definitions of the vocabulary words, root words, prefixes, and suffixes for the
a.
assigned section(s) of the vocabulary book.

There will be an in-class test that covers definitions, sentence completion, spelling, root words, prefixes, and
b.
suffixes every class.
You may visit our eMAX Vocabulary Game website to help yourself understand vocabulary words better. Go to
c. ‘online eMAX’(the tab menu on the left) eMax homepage, click ‘Vocabulary Games’, select ‘your grade’ and click
‘this week’s number’.
2. Literature + Debate (Reading Street 5.2)
a. Read the story in your literature textbook.
Complete the assigned homework. This homework will change each week, so be sure to refer back to the page
numbers provided in the homework page. The different kinds of homework are as follows:
(1) Vocabulary: match each vocabulary word with the appropriate definition. You may find the definitions by
looking at the glossary of your textbook.
b.
(2) Multiple choice questions: Complete each question after reading the story.
(3) Short answer questions: complete each question assigned to you by writing down at least three sentences in
your eMAX Workbook. The page numbers for the questions and the page numbers for your answer sheet will be
provided in the homework page.
c. Major subject test days will be highlighted in the homework page.
Read the debate topic for that day and create 2 arguments for each side (agree/disagree) before you come to
d.
class. Write the arguments down in your debate sheet.
3. Science + Teach-back + Science Workbook
Read the assigned lesson in the science textbook. If there are workbook pages assigned, complete those pages
a.
in the eMAX Workbook for homework. There will be a quiz at the end of every lesson.
Teach-back: There will be an in-class presentation on science days. Prepare a 1-minute presentation speech
b. based on the lesson you will learn that day. Prepare many details and don’t memorize straight from the book.
Write in your own words and you must finish preparation before you come to class.
Teach-back: You must use the number of vocabulary words per level for your presentation as follows. Each
vocabulary word should be from the current vocabulary week:
c. - Level 2 students: 8 words
- Level 3 students: 6 words
- Level 4 students: 4 words
4. Writing
a. All writing (original & rewrite) will be done in class.
b. Your teacher will review your writing in person in class.
5. TOEFL Listening
a. Complete the assigned pages for homework.

Listen to the news clip on the website. You may find it by following these instructions ‘online eMAX’ (the tab
b.
menu on the left), click ‘online listening’, select ‘your grade’ and click ‘this week’s listening number’.

c. You may need to listen to it over and over again in order to complete the dictation sheet.
d. After completing the script, study it using the vocabulary words listed.
e. Bring the completed dictation sheet to class and your teacher will explain it.
f. There will be a weekly in-class comprehension quiz on the news listening.
6. TOEFL Reading Comprehension
a. TOEFL Reading Comprehension: We will complete this section in class.
7. Grammar
Study the assigned pages in your grammar book. Study and memorize the assigned irregular verbs (불규칙동사)
in the back of the grammar book. Complete the assigned questions on the assigned pages in the grammar book.

You must write the answers in your grammar book AND on an answer sheet. You will turn in the answer sheet
to your teacher.
b. Each day, there will be either a GRASP quiz or a written quiz in class.
Do either odd numbered (1, 3, 5, etc.) or even numbered questions (2, 4, 6, etc.) for homework according to
c.
the homework page.

d. Study irregular verbs daily.


8. Writing Exercise

Complete the daily assigned homework for class. You will complete different number of them depending on
a.
your level.

b. Your teacher will check for homework completion and will go over the answers during class.
c. Ignore the name of the day and complete the page that was assigned.
9. Novel
a. Read the assigned pages of your novel for homework.
b. There will be an in-class comprehension quiz on the assigned section.
c. Highlight key events and areas that you think are important. It will help you during the in-class quiz.
