CUSTOMIZED DRUG DELIVERY
◦ It is also termed Personalized drug delivery systems (PDDS).
◦ Personalized medicine is the tailoring of medical treatment to the individual
characteristics of each patient.
◦ Drug delivery system that are designed to release the drug as per the need of the
individual or specific patient.
◦ Therapy with the right drug at right dosing in the right patient.
◦ Ability to look at a patient on an individual basis will allow for a more accurate
diagnosis and specific treatment plan.
◦ Customized medicines is prepared based on each patients medical history, needs,
genetic, health condition and other factors.

CUSTOMIZED DRUG DELIVERY
Personalized Medicine Is...
◦ Personalized medicine is a multi-faceted approach to patient care that not only
improves our ability to diagnose and treat disease but offers the potential to detect
disease at an earlier stage when it is easier to treat effectively.
◦ Risk assessment
• Prevention
• Detection
• Diagnosis
• Treatment
• Management
Advantages of customized drug
delivery system
◦ Better matching patients to drugs instead of "trial and error".
◦ Eliminate life-threatening adverse reaction.
◦ Reduce cost of clinical trials by quickly identifying total failures and favourable
response for particular backgrounds.
◦ Improved efficacy of drugs.
◦ Dosage can be controlled for the patients who need lower doses or with the needs of
each individual patient.

3D PRINTING
3D PRINTING
◦ The process of making three-dimensional solid object from a digital file by layer-to-layer
fabrication.
◦ It include wide variety of manufacturing technologies which are all based on digitally
controlled depositing of materials to create free-form geometries.
◦ This method extensively used in field of biomanufacturing(specially for bone and tissue
engineering).
◦ 3D printing can be used for personalized or unique dosage forms, more complex drug
release profile, and printing living tissue.
ADVANTAGES OF 3D PRINTING
◦ High production rate due to its fast-operating systems.
◦ Ability to achieve high drug loading with much desired precision and accuracy
especially for potent drugs that are applied in small doses.
◦ Reduction of material wastage which can save the cost of production.
◦ An ability to broad types of pharmaceutical active ingredients including poorly water
soluble, peptides and proteins, as well as drug with narrow therapeutic windows.

TELE PHARMACY
◦ Tele pharmacy is the delivery of pharmaceutical care via
telecommunications to patients.
◦ Tele pharmacy service includes drug monitoring therapy, patient counselling, authorize
for prescription drugs.
◦ Also used for video conferencing in Pharmacy for providing education, training, to
pharmacy staff
◦ Remote dispensing of medications by automated packaging and labelling systems
can also be through of as an instance of tele pharmacy.
◦ Tele pharmacy services can be delivered at retail pharmacy sites.
TYPES OF TELE PHARMACY
1. INPATIENT (remote order entry review)
Inpatient tele pharmacy refers to a pharmacist at a remote location performing
remote order-entry services for an inpatient pharmacy at a hospital. The remote
pharmacist reviews medication orders before the hospital staff administers the
drugs to the patient.
• With inpatient tele pharmacy, remote pharmacists are able to provide 24/7 coverage
to strengthen pharmacy.
• Remote order-entry review in a health system serves as an extension of the in-
house pharmacy.
2. Remote dispensing (retail/outpatient/discharge)
A remote-dispensing site, or retail community tele pharmacy, is a licensed brick-and-
mortar pharmacy staffed by a certified pharmacy technician. A pharmacist supervises
the technician, reviews prescriptions and performs his or her duties from a remote
location via technology.
