2. Answer all questions in the sections A and B and two (2) questions from
section C of which question 11 is compulsory.
3. All writing should be in blue or black pen, except for diagrams that must be
drawn in pencil.
4. Cellular phones and any unauthorized materials are not allowed in the

visit to Mt. Meru hospital. They noted a patient with sunken eyes, severe
dehydration, weak pulse, deep breathing, vomiting and convulsions.
(i) What would be the possible disease that this patient was suffering from?
(ii) Suggest preventive measures for the disease in (a)(i) above

(b) AIDS is one of the threatening diseases worldwide. Briefly explain the
precautions that must be taken when caring for someone with AIDS.

4. Figure 1 is a diagram of a plant root. Study the diagram and answer the
questions that follow.

(ii) Give any two examples of plants which can be found in group of plants
mentioned in (a) (i) above.
(iii) Name the organisms which inhabit the swellings of the roots
(iv) What is the name of the relationship existing between the plant and the
organism mentioned in (a)(i) above?

(b) Name the bacterium which does the nitrogen fixation cycle.

(c) Suppose your biology teacher organizes a study tour to Manyara National
Park. During your visit, you observe the following organisms; vulture,
antelope, shrubs, cheater, and wildebeest. As a form four student draw a
diagram that represents the food web and two food chains from these
organisms.

5. (a) State the actions which takes place in human being in response to each of
the following conditions;
(i) When the surrounding temperature is low.
(ii) When the body temperature rises due to increase in surrounding
temperature.

(b) Explain any three (3) advantages of an organism being homoethermic.

6. (a) A parent left bread in a cupboard, after three days white things were seen
with club like structures at the top. As a student;
(i) Identify the organisms immersed on the bread.
(ii) Name the kingdom and phylum of the organisms.

(b) Mention any three (3) distinctive features of the kingdom to which
mushroom belong.

7. (a) Explain in one sentence why the following features occur to these
organisms.
(i) Streamlined body of birds
(ii) Ciliated trachea of human
(iii) Needle-like leaves of plants found in desert
(iv) Coiled and elongated ileum in humans
(b) An engineer needs to approve a building to be used as biology laboratory.
(i) What is biology laboratory?
(ii) List four (4) qualities which he/she must consider in order for that building
to be considered as good biology laboratory.

8. (a) Give the hormone responsible for each of the following biological processes.
(i) Development of male sexual characteristics.
(ii) Development of female sexual characteristics
(iii) Prepares the body for fight or flight response
(iv) Raised blood sugar level
(v) Initiate labour pain
(b) Nervous coordination differs from hormonal coordination. Explain in four (4)
points.
SECTION C (30 Marks)
Answer two (2) questions from this section
9. Recently most women are using artificial methods to prevent pregnancies
intentionally without considering the negative impacts of these methods.
Assume you are the health officer of Mtakuja village prepare a report that
explain in details about the negative impacts of these methods of family
planning (four points).

10. The members of the kingdom Monera are advantageous and disadvantageous.
Using six (6) points justify this statement.

11. Many people especially the youth engage in bad habits of using drugs such as
cocaine, heroin, and marijuana. What do you think are causes of the youth to
engage in drug abuse? Suggest the ways in which we can stop youth from this
habit.
