Question 3
You are provide with a thermometer, water, beaker, paraffin in a lamp / candle,
tripod stand, clamp stand, stop watch, matches and a beam balance.
a. Pour 200 cm3 of water into a beaker.
b. Set up the apparatus as shown in figure 1.

c. Measure and record the temperature of water before heating.


d. Light the lamp / candle and heat the water for 10 minutes.
e. Measure and record the temperature of water after heating.
f. Calculate the change in temperature of water.

Question 4
You are provided with a convex lens in a holder, meter rule, white screen, candle
and matches.
a. Arrange the apparatus as shown by figure 2.

b. Light the candle.


c. Move the object (candle) until it is 20 cm away from the lens.
d. Move the screen until a clear image of the object is formed on the screen.
e. Measure the image distance, V and record it in the table of results.
f. Repeat steps c to e for object distances shown in the table.
