Maintaining Note
1. Power supply: is used to convert the main alternating current into ow voltage direct
current that is supplied other parts.
Power supply unit has its Owen fun
2. Hard disk drive: is the main storage device of the computer. It is where most of the
file of the computer (such as they are found in desktop) are stored.
3. Optical disk drive: is used to read or write data in to optical disk CD, DVD)
4. ROM module: is the temporary storage device of a computer. It is used to hold the
data that the computer is working on.
5. Central processing unit: is refers to on the computer brain as it does the
processing job of the computer. This means that is responsible for manipulating the
data.
6. CPU fun and heat sink: these two components are work together in keeping the
CPU overheating. The metal is called the heatsink as it conducts heat from the CPU
while the CPU fun below the air to the heatsink.
7. System fun: is find at the left side panel and back panel of the system unit.
It directly the flow of air in the system unit.
8. Mother board: is the main circuit board of the computer that control all other parts.
Mother board is a printed circuit board that is foundation of a computer and allow the
CPU, ram, and all other computer hardware components to function and
communicate with each other.
9. Expansion slot: are where the expansion card such as modem card and graphics
card are card are installed. There are different types of slots.
10. RAM slot: are where the RAM module are installed.
11. North bridge: is located between the CPU socket, expansion slot, and RAM slot.
It co-ordinate the flow of data between the CPU, graphics card & RAM.
12. South bridge: located below the expansion slot, the south bridge handle all of the
computer input/ output function such as USB, audio, serial, the system BIOS.
13. BIOS: a short for basic input/output system the bios, rom bios, or the system bios is
the chips located on all mother board that contains instruction and setup for how
your system should boot and how it operable.
Bios chips stands for basic input/ output system. It contains the program that
check device to know if the computer is ready to start up.
14. CMOS RAM: is the one that hold data used by the bios or operating system. the data
include time, date, bios password.
15. CMOS battery: provide the power used by CMOS ram so that even when the
computer is off CMOS RAM can still keep the data (this means time and date will not
be reset.)
16. Jumper: is the short length of conductor, used to close a break in or bypass part of,
an electrical circuit. So jumper ae typically used to set up or configure circuit board
such as mother board of the computer.
17. Capacitor: is used to store energy in an electrical store.
18. Inductor: short for electromagnetic coil, a coil is conductor wire such as copper in a
cylindrical form around an iron core that creates an inductor or electromagnet to
stole magnetic energy.
19. Backup panel port: located at the back of the motherboard this where most of the
computer peripheral are connected. These peripheral include the keyboard, mouse,
and printer
20. USB header: is a group of pin, typically on a computer mother board or expansion
card to which an internal USB cable can be attached to provide extra USB port.
21. Front panel header: is mostly located on left & front side of the motherboard. Most
computer have 3 front panel headers system panel header, audio header, USB
header.
22. Front panel connector: is where the connector of hard disk drive activity, light,
case, speaker, reset button, power on/ off, computer on light, key lock is connected
to make the function of smoothly.
23. ATX main power connector: where the 20*4 pin ATX main power connect of the
PSU is connected.
24. Power connector: is where the 4 pin ATX 12v power connector of the PSU is
connected.
25. IDE slot: integrated drive electric or PATA is drive control on your motherboard that
support both hard drive and CD-ROM, DVD-ROM drive.
26. PCI slot: provide a medium to expand the capabilities of the PC by adding like
modem card, audio card, and Ethernet card.
27. AGP slot: IS one of the type of video card available. AGP card are automatically
detect an in-built video card when connected to AGP slot of the system.
This provide better resolution than on board/ integrated video.
28. AMR slot: the audio/ modem raised also known as an AMR slot, is raised expansion
slot found on the mother board of some Pentium III ,4 Antoni persona computer.
It was designed by intel to interface with chipset and provide analog function
such as sound card and modem on an expansion card.
It was designed by intel to interface with chipset and provide analog fraction
such as sound card and modem on an expansion card.
29. Network chips: control network port at the back of the computer
30. Supper I/O chips: control the serial, parallel, mouse and keyboard portal the back of
computer system.
31. Audio chips: control the on board audio system.
