There are many purposes for writing and it is important to adopt the
appropriate tone, or style, of language to suit the purpose for which you
are writing. In the same way that you have a particular style of speech for
use in the playground and another when speaking to your school
principal, so you would not use the same language style, or register, when
writing to a friend as you would when writing a formal essay.
Instructions:
• Answer QUESTION ONE or QUESTION TWO.

Write a descriptive essay detailing how the Corona Virus Pandemic has affected your life. In your essay,
you should use vivid imagery to create a picture with words. Consider how your goals for the year have
been affected, mention how you feel about lockdown and daily screenings, underline the issues around
social distancing and the ease of restrictions etc.

Write an essay describing your ideal high school. Be creative and use your imagination. Use words that
will allow your reader to experience a virtual tour of the institution. Consider mentioning the landscape,
the classroom sizes, resource equipment, sporting facilities and the like. Describe the atmosphere vividly
