DESIGN AND PRODUCTION 2

COSTUME DESIGN PROJECT

You will be pick a partner a show and follow the progression of two characters. Each member of the group will
design one costume for each character. Begin with an analysis the characters, then research the period and
location of the story, and also the socio-economic qualities of the characters. After you have a solid concept,
and an understanding of the story and characters, research specifics for the clothing of the characters in their
story and time period, as well as color, texture, and fabrics. Finally create a vision board for them and their
costume.

FOLLOW THESE STEPS:


1- Read the script or find a good synopsis and, listen to the music.
2- Collaborate with your group to write a character analysis of the two characters with the following
questions in mind:
 Who are these people?
 What is their connection to each other and the story of the show?
 What is the time period and location of their environment?
 What is their socio-economic background?
 What is their progression from beginning to end?
 What story is being told?

3- Research the time period specifically looking at fashion and clothing.


4- Come up with a color scheme that reflects the story and characters
5- Decide on the costumes you want to render for each character.
 Each member of the group will render one costume for each character noting any significant
changes they have throughout the show
6- Create a final rendering for each character.
7- Organize a group google slide presentation with the following:
 Description of the show, basic background of the two characters.
 Research photos showcasing the time period and environment of the show.
 Specific research for the clothing of each character.
 Pictures of the renderings of each character.
 Character analysis for each character.

Find research that reflects the time period, fashion of the times, character inspiration, etc.
Do not use photos from other productions.
