LEARNING OBJECTIVES

M At the end of the lesson, most pupils will be able to find the words in the monolingual dictionary
and match them to the correct pictures.

C At the end of the lesson, some pupils will be able to read the text and identify at least 3 out of 5
true or false sentences correctly.
1. Play the anagram for the word ‘teacher’ E.g cretaeh
2. Put pupils into pairs or groups and ask them to guess the word.
I. PRE-LESSON 3. Tell pupils this is your job – you are a teacher, and you teach and help children
every day.
4. Tell pupils that today you will help them learn to use a dictionary. Show pupils a
dictionary.
1. Activity 1:
 Elicit and write the alphabet on the board.
 Write the word cat on the board. Model using a dictionary to find the word and
read the definition.
 Put the pictures of the people from Student’s Book p.18 on the board. Show
pupils the word cards and put them randomly on the board too.
 Have pupils work in at least seven groups. Assign one word to each group and
ask them to find the word in the dictionary. Give them time to find the word and
then ask them which picture on the board they think their word belongs with.
 For each of the seven words, ask one pupil to come out and move their word
II. LESSON card next to the correct picture on the board.
DEVELOPMENT Activity 2:
 Play the CD track 26. Pupils listen, point to the pictures and repeat. (vocabulary
SB pg 18)
 Draw pupils’ attention to the presentation and ask them to guess what each
person does.
 Play the CD track 27 and have pupils follow along silently. Play the CD for the
second time and conduct shadow reading activity. The third time you play the
CD pause after each phrase for pupils to repeat.
 Ask questions to check comprehension. (refer to TB pg 36)
 Distribute worksheet. Pupils read and identify true or false sentences. Check
with the class.
III. POST
1. Ask pupils if they have a family member who is a firefighter, doctor or lifeguard.
