Management
Management is the act of getting people together to accomplish desired goals and objectives using available resources efficiently and effectively.
Management comprises
Planning
in organizations and public policy is both the organizational process of creating and maintaining a plan; and the psychological process of thinking about the activities required to create a desired goal on some scale.
Organizing
Anything is commonly considered organized when it looks like everything has a correct order or placement.
Leadership
has been described as a process of social influence in which one person can enlist the aid and support of others in the accomplishment of a common task.
Information
Consists of facts that have been analyzed by the process component and is an output of the information system.
System
A group of interdependent items that interact regularly to perform a task. In computer system, it refers to the hardware and software components that run a computer or computers.
Information Systems
Are designed to collect data, process the collected data, and deliver timely, relevant, and useful information that can be used for decision making.

Operational level
Monitor the elementary activities and transactions of the organization Principal purpose: To track specific transactions and answer routine questions at any given time Example: Tracking system of number of hours worked for employees

KNOWLEDGE-LEVEL SYSTEMS
Support knowledge and data workers Principal Purpose: Integration of new knowledge into the business and control of the flow of paperwork. Example: MSOffice Applications

MANAGEMENT-LEVEL SYSTEMS
Support the monitoring, controlling, decisionmaking, and administrative activities of middle managers. Principal Purpose: Provide historic, periodic information and support decision-making (what if scenarios) Example: Data Warehouse System comparing Actual vs. Target figures for production on a monthly basis

Support the long-range planning activities of senior management Principal Purpose: Assess the organization vs. environment Example: Systems that present what the firm will be like in 5 years

Types of Transactions
When a department orders office supplies from the purchasing department, an internal transaction occurs, when a customer places an order for a product, an external transaction occurs.
Internal Transactions: Those transactions, which are internal to the company and are related with the internal working of a ny organization. For example Recruitment Policy, Promotion Policy, Production policy etc External Transactions: Those transactions, which are external to the organization and are related with the external sources, are regarded as External Transaction. For example sales, purchase etc.
Sample of TPS
Jollibee's, which sells a large number of hamburgers every day, orders raw materials from its suppliers. Each time the company places an order with a supplier, a transaction occurs and a transaction system records relevant information, such as the supplier's name, address, and credit rating, the kind and quantity of items purchased, and the invoice amount.
Types of MIS
The backbone of office automation is a LAN, which allows users to transmit data, mail and even voice across the network.
