    IATA was founded in Havana, Cuba in April
    1945.
    IATA mission statement
    Represent And Serve The Airline Industry
    Aim was twofold: ensuring that fares and rates
    would not involve cut throat competition, while
    ensuring that they could be set as low as possible
    in the interest of consumers.

    Bilateral Agreement
    Each state Designates scheduled Air Carriers. The
    important part of these Agreement specifies the
    Cities which may be served by the Designated
    Airlines.These Rights including the Right to over fly
    or makes stops for technical reasons only in an other
    country are known as the Freedoms of the Air.
    A Few examples will explain these are Concerned
    with operation of an Airline of country A

    First Freedom
    The right of an airline of a country (A) to fly across the
    Territory of an another country (A) to fly across the
    territory of the another country (B) without
    landing(=Over fly)

    Over fly
    Flight LH1508 (Germany) from FRA to MIL overflies
    Switzerland

    Second Freedom
    The Right of an Airline Country (A) to land in the territory of another country (B) for
    non- Traffic Purposes I.e. Refueling

    Flt JL068 (Japan) from TYO to RIO Technical Stop in LAX

    Third Freedom
    The Right of an Airline of a Country (A) to set down in
    Another Country (B) Passengers, Mail and Cargo
    Coming from home Country of the Airline (A)

    Flt PE006 (New Zealand) from AKL to LAX

    Fourth Freedom
    The right of an Airline of the country(A) to pick up in
    another Country (B) Passenger, Mail and Cargo

    Destined for home country of the Airline (A)

    Fifth Freedom
    The right of an Airline of a country (A) to carry
    Passenger, Mail and Cargo from a Point of origin in a

    Sixth Freedom
    A term Sometimes Applied to the type of Fifth Freedom
    Traffic in which Passengers, Mail and Cargo are Carried
    from Point to Point of Origin in a Foreign Country (B) to
    a Point of Destination in another Foreign Country (C) via
    the Home Country of the Airline (A)

    Seventh Freedom
    Cabotage: The right to Carry Traffic wholly within a Country or
    between that Country and any of the wholly owned overseas
    Territories, or between any of its wholly owned overseas
    Territories. Not so readily Available today as more and more
    Territories become Independent and the Cabotage status is
    automatically relinquished.
