    Robert Jones was known as the Father of British Orthopaedics. He was born in 1834 in Anglesey, Wales and descended from a family of bone setters. He studied medicine and began his practice in Liverpool in 1859. Jones made many contributions to orthopaedic surgery, including advocating prolonged rest for tuberculosis of the knee. He invented the Thomas Splint and Thomas Test. Jones published numerous works on orthopaedic conditions and treatments. Despite his achievements, his peculiar personality led many to ignore his immense contributions to the field.
