Effects of Electro-culture on the

Growth of Raphanus sativus

Renzelle Melisse Mendiola – STEM12D

INTRODUCTION
The use of fertilizers is inherent even if set-up is small
scale.
However, studies show that the use of chemical fertilizers
are very detrimental both to the environment (Bhandari,
2014) and on consumers’ health (Ward, 2008).
 Previous researches prove that exposure to electricity can
have a positive effect on plant growth (Grandeau & Leqlerc,
1898) and seed germination (Lazarenko & Gorbatovskaya,
1966).
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

1. Can electricity be an effective fertilizer to homegrown

plants particularly Raphanus sativus (radish)?
2. Can variation in voltages also affect plants’ growth?

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

 Home-growers and large-scale farmers, if proven true, can
use this method instead of perilous fertilizers/pesticides.
OBJECTIVES
 To identify negative and positive effects of electricity
exposure on radish plants
 To determine if difference in voltages subjected can
constitute significant results

INTERPRETATION
1. (On seed germination) Seeds should be geminated first before
applying electrical current to attain optimal results.
2. (On plant growth) 6V electricity exposure can produce
negative effects, whereas 12V can be very beneficial.
3. (On plant sturdiness) 6V electricity exposure made plant
stems weaker, whereas 12v have strongest stems.
4. (On pest resilience) 12V electricity is an effective pesticide.
CONCLUSION
1. 6V can have negative effects on germination of Raphanus sativus
seeds, but 12V offers worst results.
2. 6V neither promotes steady growth nor rapid healing to Raphanus
sativus plants.
3. 12V is best in aiding Raphanus sativus plant growth and healing.
4. 12V can fend off pests.
RECOMMENDATIONS
1. Prepare more sample plants to be able to garner a more valid and
significant result.
2. Time interval should be more consistent.
3. Future studies could focus on effects to Raphanus sativus plants if:
(a) electricity current/voltage is increased; (b) time of exposure is
increased or (c) more space is allotted for plants.
