• Headquartered in London.
• One of the largest banking and financial services
organizations in the world.
• HSBC's international network comprises around
8,000 offices in 87 countries.
• Territories in Europe, the Asia-Pacific region, the
Americas, the Middle East and Africa.
• HSBC provides a comprehensive range of
financial services to individuals, businesses and
institutions.
GROUP HISTORY
1865-1899:
 The HSBC Group is named after its founding member, The
Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited,
which was established in 1865 to finance the growing trade
between China and Europe. By the end of the century, after a
strong period of growth and success the bank was the
foremost financial institution in Asia.
1900-1945:
 The bank’s new head office in Hong Kong (1935) and the
new buildings at major branches such as Bangkok (1921),
Manila (1922) and Shanghai (1923)  n the Second World
War, the majority of the bank’s staff in the East became
prisoners of war as the Japanese advanced through Asia. 
1946-1979:
 After the Second World War HSBC quickly restored its head
office powers and functions to Hong Kong. By the 1970s the
bank By the 1970s the bank had firmly developed a policy of
expansion by acquisition or formation of  subsidiaries with their
own identities and expertise.

1980-1999:
 During the 1980s HSBC concentrated on moving into those
markets where it was not yet fully represented. In the United State
this expansion centred on the purchase of Marine Midland Bank

2000 to present day :


 In April,2000 HSBC announced a US$11 billion recommended
offer for Crédit Commercial de France (CCF) .
 In 2001 also saw the opening of the only branch in the HSBC

network that is open 365 days a year - in Pune in Western India.


 From 2002, the HSBC identity carried the strap line of 'The world's
local bank’

 April,2003 the new Group head office in Canary Wharf in London


officially opened to house some 8000 staff. HSBC also acquired Keppel
Insurance Pte Ltd.

 HSBC grew organically and through strategic acquisitions in 2004.

 In 2005, HSBC marked 140 years in China by increasing its stake in


the country.

 2006 was a year of development and change for HSBC.

 2007 was a year of challenges for HSBC.

 2008 was an exceptionally challenging year for HSBC.

 In 2009, HSBC garnered accolades and awards, released solid


financial results, provided honest assessments of the economic
landscape, supported victims of natural disasters in the developing
world,

•HSBCnet:
HSBCnet is a global service that caters to local
business needs by offering specialized functionality for different
regions worldwide.

•HSBC Direct :
HSBC Direct is a telephone/online direct banking
operation which attracts customers through mortgages, accounts and
savings .
