Computations
Procedure
Slake CaO (addition of water with the
liberation of heat to form a crumbly material in
mortar/beaker) covered with watch glass
Xg 0.09 g
CaO + H2O Ca(OH)2 + CO2 CaCO3
MW 56g/n MW 74g/n
Procedure
Let stand for 5 minutes
Add cold water and agitate for 1
hour to dissolve completely the CaO
Filter collect only the supernatant
liquid.
Procedure
Add sufficient amount of cold
water up to the brim of the
container (no bubbles inside)
A clear, colorless solution should
be achieved

Remarks
The method preparation was simple
method
Undissolved portion is not suitable for
preparation of additional quantity of
Ca(OH)2 soln. to ensure saturated
soln.
Bottle should be filled up to the brim
Remarks
The solution should be stored in well-
filled, tightly stoppered containers
to deter the absorption of CO2 and
should be kept in a cool place to
maintain an adequate concentration of
dissolved solute.
Remarks
The solution is categorized as an
astringent.
For this purpose it is generally
employed in combination with
other ingredients in dermatologic
solutions and lotions to be
