General Information on Peru
The country that I picked this project is Peru. I picked Peru because love
countries with a lot of nature and wildlife. I also picked Peru because I
have seen multiple movies that were filmed in Peru and I just wanted
to know more about this beautiful place. Peru is located on the
continent of South America. Peru is West of Brazil and East of the
Pacific ocean. 84% of citizens in Peru speak Spanish.13% of citizens
speak Quechua, and 1.7% of citizens in Peru speak Aymara. The current
population of Peru is 32,550,000 people.

Geography and Climate

One of the physical features of Peru is the Amazon river. The Amazon river runs
through Peru. Another famous feature is Machu Picchu, a mountain. Machu Picchu
is famous because that is where the Inca (Native American) tribe escaped from
after the Spanish conquistadors ( Con-keesda-dores) showed up. The mountain has
a whole city built up on it. There are also the Andes mountains. These mountains
hold a stunning and breathtaking view of snow capped mountains. In Peru, most
people live in Trujillo, Chiclayo, Piura and Lima(the capital of Peru). The climate on
the coast is usually has high temperatures and very little rainfall. The eastern
lowlands of Peru have hot weather and rain all year.

Government and Economics

Peru has a president named Martin Vizcarra. The economy in Peru is a
mix between agriculture and capitalist. Peru is also known as a
developing economy because of all of the poverty and unemployment.
Some of the main exports of Peru are gold, copper, zinc(valuable
metals), chemicals, machinery, fish, and etc. Peru trades these goods
with the U.S, China, Brazil, and Chile.
Food and Drink
Rice Pudding
Some popular foods from Aji de Gallina
Peru are potatoes, rice
pudding, and Aji de Gallina
(Creamy Chicken). Some
popular drinks from Peru
are Chicha Morada which is
made from PURPLE corn!
Another popular drink from
Peru is Inca Kola. Inca Kola is
known as “the pride of Chicha Morada
Peru”.

Family and Education
A nuclear household is more common in Peruvian houses. A nuclear
household is when the family is made up of the mom, the dad, and
their kids. Of course this depends on the family's geographic location.
The levels that a typical child completes in school are pre-school,
primary school(elementary school), secondary education(middle
school- high school), and finally higher education(college). An average
family has about three children. The average size of a family is 4 – 5
people.

Customs and Traditions
Some traditional customs and celebrations in
Peru are mostly involved with carnivals. One of
the carnival traditions is a water street battle.
Peru would shut down cities for three days.
During these three days anyone who roamed the
street got drenched with water. Another carnival
tradition is Ritual of the Yunza. How they
celebrate this is they plant a tree that has a lot of
decorations and gifts. Then, they start to dance
around the tree. Next, couples start chopping at
the tree with an ax. When a couple chops the
tree down, they get to make all of that year’s
Yunza arrangements. Some of the main holidays
that Peruvians celebrate are All Saints’ Day,
Immaculate Conception Day, and Christmas.

Scientific Contributions
One scientist from Peru was a man named Alberto
Barton. His scientific discovery was that a bacteria
called Bartonella bacilliformis is responsible for a illness
called the Oroya fever. Another famous discovery is of
the Inca tribe’ secret village in the Andes mountains.
The village is called Machu Picchu. Some famous
Antonio Brack Egg
scientists from Peru are Antonio Brack Egg. Brack Egg
created the Ministry of the Environment in Peru. He
also took part in an environmental organization in
Germany that focused on protecting vicuñas(a species
that was endangered).

Native Animals
Some of the most common
animals in Peru is a llama, Alpaca,
Amazon river dolphin, Humboldt
penguin, Jaguar, Spectacled Bear,
Peruvian Hairless Dog, and the
Andean Cock-of-the-rock. I think
that the Andean Cock-of-the-rock
is the most unique and
interesting out of all of them. At
the zoo I found the spectacled
bear and the jaguar. The
spectacled bear was the most
active because I saw it swimming
in it’s pool and it shook itself off
at the end.
