General information on South Korea
 I found this wheel online to choose the

country for me, but I surprisingly, had a lot
of fun reading up on this country. Its culture
and history is one of the most interesting
things to read about, by far.
 South Korea is located in between the
Yellow Sea and The Sea Of Japan.
 In South Korea people speak Korean but
I’m pretty sure there are bilingual people
there.
 The approximate population in South
Korea is 51,164,435 people and their global
rank in population is 27

Geography
 Some landforms in South Korea are the Jirisan Mountain, the Hallasan
Shield Volcano, the Imjin River, and the Taebaeksan Mountain Peak.
Climate
 In South Korea winters are usually long, cold and dry, summers are
very short, hot, and humid, spring and autumn are pleasant but also
short in duration.
 More than 80% of the population live in the urban areas of South
Korea.

Government and Economics
 South Korea has a democratic

republic.
 Their current leader is Moon Jae-In.
 South Korea is the 4th largest in Asia
and the 11th in the world,
dominated by family owned
conglomerates called chaebols.
 Major exports that South Korea
makes are machinery, motor
vehicles, steel, ships, textiles,
clothing (with no petroleum
reserves), and a substantial of
crude oil.
Food and Drink
 I found these really tasty looking foods from South Korea, twigim
(튀김), gogigui (고기구이).
 I found these two drinks that are both traditional and healthy, they
are, omija tea (오미자차), and banana milk (바나나우유).

Values and Beliefs
 South Korea is a country where all of the world’s major religions co-
exist (Christianity, Buddhism, Confucianism and Islam) peacefully
with Shamanism.
 Christianity worships the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and
that Jesus was the son of God; Buddhism worships Buddha;
Confucianism is a philosophical movement aimed at bettering
society; Islam believes that Jesus was a prophet and that he was not
the son of god nor that he died on the cross; Shamanism believes
that spirits exist and play important roles, both in individual lives and
human society.
Family and Education
 A middle-class apartment in Seoul easily costs 1 million won (891.03

US dollars). The common family structure is nuclear; under this family
model a husband/father to exhibit dominance and kindness to his
wife and in return for obedience and love. Many families hold the
man of the house the decision-maker. Children nowadays are
raised to be more dependent on themselves, and women have
grown much more status and power in society.
 The average south Korean child spends six years in elementary,
three years in middle school, three years in high school, and if they
go to college and get a bachelor’s degree they spend four years, if
they decide to get a master’s degree they spend two years, if they
get a doctorate degree they spend three years in college.
Customs and Traditions
 South Korea has a long tradition of starting

the New Year (by the lunar calendar) with
the ceremonious bows made by kids to their
parents. During the mid-autumn holiday of
Chuseok (15th day of the lunar month),
families gather together and make
songpyeon (half-moon shape rice cake).
 In South Korea people bow to apologize or
to greet somebody, they also give gifts when
invited to someone’s house.
Scientific Contributions
 They created soybean cultivation, heated

greenhouses, rain gauge, and Korean hand
plow.
 Hwang Woo-Suk was a scientist in South

Korea (he was born December 15, 1953,
Buyeo, South Korea), he has revolutionary
claims of having cloned baby humans. He
first cloned a dog, Snuppy, an Afghan
hound. He got multiple degrees, all in
different subjects; he got a bachelor's
degree in medicine, and a masters degree
in theriogenology, (the study of animal
reproduction).
Energy Resources
 South Korea is one of the

most polluted places in the
world in terms of air quality.
Though they are not sure if
the pollution is a result of
their production or if its
from neighboring
countries. So, they are
planning to shift to
renewable resources, just
in case, but coal and
nuclear energy remain
strong.
Interesting Facts
 The number ‘4’ is considered

unlucky and is associated with
death. This belief seems to have
rubbed off from China. This country
also has some of the biggest
shopping malls in the world. The
stores are open until 4 in the
morning while restaurants, bars,
and cafés are open until 11 in the
night.
Native Animals
 The Asiatic black bear, the Lynx, and the Amur leopard are native to
South Korea.
 I didn’t find any, only because I couldn’t find where the animals
were from, it showed pictures but didn’t have a label.
