Erickson's Psycho-Social Theory of Development

Erikson's psycho-social theory of development proposes that personality develops through eight stages of psychosocial crises from infancy to late adulthood, with each stage involving a conflict between opposing emotional forces. If a stage is managed well, an individual develops virtues that help them through future stages, but failure to resolve a stage can result in maladaptation or malignancy. The theory holds that progress in each stage depends on success in previous stages and can help teachers understand factors influencing personality and behavior.
