Introduction

• IPL is the highest level of domestic professional T20 cricket


competition in India.
• Tournament started on 18 April 2008 and lasted for 46 days
with 59 matches scheduled.
• Initiated by the Board of control for cricket in india(BCCI).
• Consisting of players from different countries.
• In 2010, IPL became the first sporting to be broadcast live
on the website YouTube.
• IPL is the second highest-paid league.
Rules
• Minimum squad strength of 16 players plus one
physio and a coach.
• No more than 8 foreign players in the squad and at
most 4 in the playing XI.
• Minimum of 8 local players must be included in each
squad.
• Minimum of 2 players from the BCCI under-22 pool in
each squad

Future opportunities
• Great opportunity for advertisers and sponsors.
• Franchises have sound investment option.
• India registered a massive 96 percent profit for both the
2008 and 2009 seasons.
• A big challenge for IPL will be how to build an international
supporter.
• There is substantial scope for growth in the international
popularity of the format.
controversies
• Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor
owns the Kochi franchise of the Indian Premier League.
• RSW threatened to send a legal notice to Modi and
accused the IPL Commissioner of breaking the
confidentiality terms.
• Tharoor denied having a stake in the Kochi franchise,
saying he played merely a facilitator's role.
• Prime Minister Manmohan Singh promised to act
against tharoor, if necessary.
• Two teams are banned for 2011 IPL.
My Opinion
• Emerging Players got better chance to show
their capability.
• New mode of entertainment.
• The purpose of IPL being clean.
• Taken as a mode of entertainment only.
• Totally power driven game.
