MICRO PROCESSOR (Version 3)

Main advantages:
• Real time monitoring of locomotives for sheds and TLCs.
• Improvement in reliability of locomotives.
• Provides TSD assistance to crew.
• In built VCD functionality.
• Three types of server login i.e., (i) Admin Login (ii) TLC
Login (iii) Shed Login
• 10.4 inch LCD display unit.
• Traction motor current measurement using Hall Effect
based sensors instead of shunt based. So that accuracy
and reliability enhanced.
MICRO PROCESSOR (Version 3)
• Main advantages:
• Measurement of brake cylinder and brake pipe pressure.
• Measurement of locomotive speed.
• Inbuilt Energy metering (SEC & GTKM calculation).
• Short term and long term event recording.
• Notch indication using absolute encoder instead of
incremental method.
• Communication provision for Multiple Unit and Hotel
Load.
MICRO PROCESSOR (Version 3)
• Main advantages:
• Redundancy (fail safe) in data management.
Changeover to redundant card if any MOSFET (Metal
Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor) short
circuited in digital output card.
• Push button to RESET the MPCS if required.
• Soft relay bypass feature.
MICRO PROCESSOR (Version 3)
Principle of Operation:
• After the power is switched ON to the control unit,
display unit, SCU, ISCU, one of the CC cards
become active and CC checks for healthiness of
various sub systems.
• If any abnormality if found, CC communicates the
same through both the display units.
• Monitoring of inputs and calculation of outputs is
done at a very high rate to ensure a prompt action.
• Loco to be energized as per the procedure.
MICRO PROCESSOR (Version 3)
Principle of Operation:
• If TM voltage, OHE voltage, ARNO voltage etc., had
crossed the set limits, then either auto regression or
DJ tripping is done or any other appropriate action
is taken as per the defined logic.
• For every normal DJ opening with BLDJ, the standby
CC card becomes active and active CC card becomes
standby.
• Faults are logged in a non volatile memory with
date, time and type of fault and background data.
MICRO PROCESSOR (Version 3)
SCU (Signal Conditioning Unit):
It measures locomotive high voltage inputs of Auxiliary,
ARNO (or SI) output, traction motor armature voltage and
battery charger voltage.
It has an interface for energy measurement, speed
measurement, BP measurement and BC measurement. It
communicates with main control unit communication bus.
Main control unit sends request to SCU to know the values of
different parameters, to take the control action and display
to the loco pilot.
This unit also consists of an extra redundant channel for
auxiliary voltage measurement along with separate terminals.
MICRO PROCESSOR (Version 3)
Driver display unit:
The display Unit serves the following functions:
Viewing of operational status of locomotives.

Crew announcements, wherever pilot information / intervention is

required.
Viewing of fault log information.

System configuration settings modifications.

Vigilance test modes interface.

Isolation Status.

Viewing of digital input, digital output and analog parameters.

Train configuration information.

Software versions of the sub modules of the system.

name) wedged”.
 If wedging of any relay is allowed by MPCS, then crew should follow
the instructions as per TSD before and after wedging of that relay.
 Any short circuit in the out put such as C101/C102 etc., causes to
trip MCB 1/2 (provided in the main unit). Loco pilot has to reset it
once.
 Reset button is provided in the Main Unit. In case, DJ tripped due to
internal fault in MPCS, press reset button for 5 seconds to reset
MPCS.
 Incase of any malfunction of MPCS, loco pilot shall not resume
