Understanding and Evaluating Formulas

 Formulas are distinguished from other inputs by the equality sign (=)
 When Text (or strings) are entered as formulas, they are enclosed within
double quotation Marks (“ “)
 It can be entered through Cell Input, Formula Bar and Functions Box
 The Functions can also be located using the Functions Box
 An Advanced Excel User has successfully mastered the art of combining several
functions coherently within a single formula.
Colporteur Budgeting Task

 Task: As a Colporteur head, draw up a budget on behalf your section to be


submitted to the General and Financial Coordinator for Approval.
 Objectives
 Fill in the Serial Number
 Randomly generate the price and Quantity using ROUND AND RANDBETWEEN
Function
 Copy the Random Numbers and paste only the values
 Calculate the total cost for Item 1
 Apply the same formula for the remaining cells
 Calculate the Grand Total using the Auto Sum Feature
Academic Data Analysis Task – Part 1

 Task: As the Academic Award Night Approaches, you (Academic Director)


are expected to Analyze the Academic Data submitted by members of
Fellowship.
 Objectives
 Calculate the CGPA numerical and Percentage Change per fellowship Member
 Using IF Function, determine the Type of Change (Rise or Fall)
 Using the Nested IF Function, Determine the Academic Class per Fellowship member
Advanced Data Manipulation Techniques

 Data Manipulation is useful for transforming data, Identifying and Removing


(only if Necessary) Errors
 Common Data Manipulation Tasks include:
 Data Filtering – Extract Data based on Condition(s)
 Data Sorting – Arrange Data based on Condition(s)
 Removing Duplicates
 Conditional Formatting – Identify duplicates, Unique values etc.
Academic Data Analysis Task – Part 2

 Task: As the Academic Award Night Approaches, you (Academic Director)


are expected to Analyze the Academic Data submitted by members of
Fellowship.
 Objectives
 Sort the Data using Ordered level sorting techniques
 “Slice and Dice” the data using advanced Filters
 Duplicate rows of data and then remove duplicates
Church Attendance Task – Part 1

 Task: As the Head Usher, you are set to analyze the First Semester
Attendance Data for the Fellowship for the Post semester sectional report.
 Objectives
 Extract the Days and Month from the Dates using the Text Formula
 Identify Trends in the Weekly Attendance using a Line Chart
 Highlight the attendance below the bench Mark Value of 500 using conditional
Formatting
 Identify trends in the weekly offering per member using a line chart and compare with
that of the weekly attendance
Data Summary Techniques

 Data Summary is used to get overview or general insights from the Data
 It allows Data to be summarized or Aggregated using different fields
(Columns) and measures (Calculations)
 Examples of common Measures that can be obtained include
 Count
 Sum
 Average
 Min or Max
Academic Data Analysis Task – Part 3 (PIVOT TABLE)

 Task: As the Academic Award Night Approaches, you (Academic Director)


are expected to Analyze the Academic Data submitted by members of
Fellowship.
 Objectives
 Identify the Most Improved per Faculty and Level
 Identify the Best CGPA per faculty and Level
 Find the CGPA Averages by Role, Section and Sex
 Group Fellowship Members based on Academic Class
Church Attendance Task – Part 2 (PIVOT CHART)

 Task: As the Head Usher, you are set to analyze the First Semester
Attendance Data for the Fellowship for the Post semester sectional report.
 Objectives
 Generate Pivot Charts to Analyze the Church Attendance using Service Days and Month
as Filters
 Identify Patterns and Trends from the report
Useful Tips

 Always attach Date and Comments to reoccurring Data e.g. Attendance Sheet
 Collect Data at lowest possible grain (or level)
 Collect All parts of the name, title instead of collecting the full name

 Delete useless columns only after the end of your activity and only when
necessary. Rather than delete, you can hide the columns from plain sight
 Delete Files only when necessary and Backup regularly
 Instead of deleting, create different versions of the same file e.g. Converts1, Converts2
 Ensure to save files with very Unique names e.g. Tenure_Budget_19_09_2020
