ILAC Problem Questions

ILAC Problem Questions

“ILAC” is the method of answering all Tutorial

questions and class exercises from Tutorial 2
onwards. The ILAC method will be used in:

• Tutorial questions for 3% submission;

• Tutorial practice exam questions;
• Problem set scenario assessment;
• Final examination.
ILAC Problem Questions
Breakdown of the ILAC stages:

• Issue – what is the main legal problem

between the parties?
• Law – what is the relevant law applicable to
the facts?
• Application – applying the law listed in your
law section to the facts of the question;
• Conclusion – an answer to your issue.

ILAC Problem Questions
• Tutorial 2 – will provide students with detailed feedback
on answering a question (the homework exercise) using
the ILAC method. This will be the first example of how to
use the ILAC method in this Course.
• In Teaching Week 4/5, I will also go through the answer to
the “Ungraded: Problem Set Question” released in the
Teaching Week 3 folder on Blackboard.
• There is a “Guide to ILAC Technique” already released –
under Learning Resources on BB – with an example
problem question and how to answer the question in the
Issue, Law, Application and Conclusion sections.
ILAC Problem Questions

• There will be a workshop on the ILAC Technique later in

the Course, in the lead-up to the 20% Assessable ILAC
Problem Question. This ILAC workshop will provide you
with examples of high quality to poor quality ILAC
techniques in response to a question.

• See also the textbook on pp138-141: ILAC technique –

with an example problem question and examples of how
the question is approached and responded to in the Issue,
Law, Application and Conclusion sections.
