Course Description • This course deals with the study of the history of the University of Batangas with emphasis on the life of the UB founders. • It presents an in-depth understanding of the UB mission, vision, and philosophy, which will pave the way for the appreciation of the students’ status as members of the UB family. • It helps students develop an appreciation of UB education and an understanding of UB Identity. Course Description • To develop among UB students an identity peculiar to a member of the UB family. • To help students develop an understanding of the philosophy, mission, vision, and objectives of the University of Batangas as well as the history of UB. • To present to students the biography and the contributions of the founders in the establishment and the development of the institution from WPC to UB. • To provide the students with an idea of the aims and the goal of UB in providing its students the best education. Course Description • That the students may learn to cooperate with UB faculty, employees, and administrators in making the institution’s goal possible, i.e., to provide the best intellectual, social, moral and technical formations that will be beneficial to students. • The course is designed in order to make the students (as well as the faculty) of the University of Batangas understand their respective responsibilities in the reconstruction of the society. • It is then our hope that through this course,
each individual people who have passed through the portals of UB will become responsible citizens whose aim in life will be to take part in the rebuilding of the country. Philosophy of the University of Batangas • Philosophy is a belief or system of beliefs accepted as authoritative by some group of school. • It is a guide by which a school will be able to address both the basic and the pervasive issues and problems that will arise as the school aims for excellence and for quality education. • It also provides a means by which a school will be able to provide students the basic idea of what course to take in life and the ways by which they will be treating the others. The University of Batangas, a stock, non-
sectarian, private educational institution, believes in the pursuit of knowledge, values and skills necessary for the preservation and improvement of the Philippines society. Philosophy of the University of Batangas • UB follows the philosophical principle that the human person is good by nature. • UB believes in the human goodness that needs to be maintained and developed. • It upholds the standard that the human person has to be provided with the proper environment in order to achieve individual excellence. • UB maintains the principle that the human person is a social being who carries within himself the responsibility of upholding the society. Philosophy of the University of Batangas • In order to uphold the society, UB makes it her responsibility to be at the forefront in the formation of the people so that they may become effective ingredient in the building up of a better family, community, and nation, and a better world. • Because UB believes in the intellectual capability of a human person, UB makes it her responsibility to form the students in order to develop their knowledge, values, and skills so as to become useful for the community. Mission of the University of Batangas • UB is responding to the needs of the times. Aware of the economic situation of the Philippines, UB is one with every Filipino family in preparing the youth for a better future. • UB is one with the Filipino people in the understanding that there is no better way of preparing the future of the youth than providing for them quality education. • UB makes it her responsibility to provide her students with the necessary knowledge and skills so that they will become adept in facing all the challenges that will come their way. Mission of the University of Batangas • UB upholds professional growth and enables the person to participate in a global, technology-driven research environment. • UB is forming her students to become morally upright and responsible citizens whose concern for the community will be of primary consideration. • UB provides liberal education. Liberal education is “a philosophy of education that empowers individual with broad knowledge and transferable skills, and a stronger sense of values, ethics, and civic engagement. Batangas to be the center of excellence committed to serve the broader community through quality education. Vision of the University of Batangas • In its aim to provide the students with the best education possible, UB is continuously upgrading its educational system in order to make its courses responsive to the needs of the different industries in the country and around the world. • In its desire to improve its services for the betterment of the students’ formation, UB has gone through various stages of development, which includes the improvement of physical facilities, its services, and the educational formation that she renders to youths under her maternal care. Vision of the University of Batangas • UB has undergone several stages of academic improvements in order to make herself and her graduates for that matter globally competitive. – UB attained Level III Accreditation by the PACUCOA. – UB was awarded an Autonomous Status by the Commission on Higher Education. – The Anglo Japanese American Registrars, a member of the International Standardization Organization, has awarded UB with the ISO 9001:2008 Certification, thereby, making UB really globally competitive (details about these will be given ample discussions in the next chapters). Objectives of the University of Batangas • UB aims to: – pursue academic excellence through a continuing search for the application of truth, knowledge, and wisdom; – promote spiritual and moral development through an integrated educational process that will enhance human character and dignity; – Develop cultural, economic and socio-civic conscience through educational content, related to national development needs, conditions and aspirations; – Strengthen involvement in community services through varied economic projects; – Attain institutional self-reliance through steadfast programs for staff and physical development; and – Ensure financial viability and profitability Objectives of the University of Batangas • UB provides an avenue for the promotion of the spiritual and moral development of a person. • It values its students as human persons with value and dignity. It upholds the view that everyone is inviolable and sacred, hence, everyone should be given due importance. • This is to be made possible by means of providing students a formative activity that will highlight their own character and dignity; hence, the creation of this course—the UB Core Values. • As UB is following a pragmatic-reconstructionist ideology, UB provides an avenue for the students to develop a socio-civic conscience. Objectives of the University of Batangas
• Students are to be made critical in the evaluation of the
present social, economic, and political status of the country. The students will be made to realize that there is a need to change the society in order to achieve development. • By making them aware of the present status of the country, it is the hope of the institution that the students will develop in themselves the value of patriotism and social responsiveness. Objectives of the Course • At the end of the course, the students are expected to: • Acquire a clear understanding of the history of the University of Batangas; • Develop an appreciation of the life and works of the UB founders; • Draw a framework of UB philosophy of education; • Develop a spiritual and moral attitude from the life of the UB founders and by the system of education being provided by UB; • Improve analytical skills in the study of the works of the UB founders; and • Show an appreciation of their identity as a member of the UB family. • Objectives of the Course • One can only appreciate UB if he/she understands its history. • UB feels that it is important for every member of the UB family to develop an appreciation of his/her identity as a UBean in order for everyone to learn to take an active part in the fulfilment of the mission and vision of the University of Batangas. • UB students should understand the life and works of the founders • It is the aim of this course that as the students walk along the corridors of a hall that bears the name of the founder, they should at least be thankful that their dreams are soon going to be realized through the efforts of these great people. Objectives of the Course • It is also by way of understanding the founders and the history of UB that both the faculty and students will be able to develop a framework of the UB philosophy of education. • Students should be made to realize the meaning of education in their life and the reason for the sacrifices entailed in finishing their courses. • As the UB founders kept on insisting the importance of education in the life of the people, the students should be led to develop an attitude necessary to obtain their goal of attaining a successful life in the future.
