Hallo Effect
When we draw a general impression about an individual on the basis of a single characteristic, such as
intelligence, sociability, or appearance, a halo effect is operating.
Stereotyping
When we judge someone on the basis of our perception of the group to which he or she belongs, we are
using the shortcut called stereotyping.
Ex. Age & Gender Stereotyping
Selective perception
Selective perception is a perceptual process in which a person only perceives what he desires to and sets
aside or ignores other perceptions or viewpoints.
Social perception
Social perception refers to the ability to make accurate interpretations and inferences about other people
from their general physical appearance, verbal, and nonverbal patterns of communication.
Horn Effect
When the individual is completely evaluated on the basis of a negative quality or feature perceived. This
results in an overall lower rating than an acceptable rate.
Primary Effect
Tendency to Perceive someone on the basis of first hand information we receive about them.
Recency Effect
Tendency to Perceive someone on the basis of last information we receive about them
