Places to Visit
Periyar National Park
Periyar National Park also known as Periyar tiger reserve, located in Thekkady is a perfect example
nature’s bounty with great scenic beauty and rich biodiversity.The park is been adorned with a beautiful
lake at the heart of the sanctuary which is an artificial 100 years old lake. We can do boating in the lake
and if we are lucky enough then we get to see wild tigers or elephants drinking water.There are now
estimated counts of 40 tigers in the national park.We also get to see various species of the deer
family.Some of the rare species found are the rare lion tailed macaque,nilgiri langur etc.June to
september is the best time to visit Periyar.There is also an availability of jeep safari, but the most
interesting thing is the elephant safari. We get to explore the jungle sitting on an elephant.The periyar
national park is a place which is a must to vis it.
Aruvikkuzhi
Waterfalls
Aruvikkuzhi Waterfalls is a waterfall in Kottayam district of Kerala. It is situated 2 km
from Pallickathode and 7.5 km from Pampady. The waterfall measures about 30 ft in height
and active only during monsoon. In summer the river almost dries up.Located 22 km from
Kottayam, Aruvikkuzhi is a beautiful picnic spot and an ideal shooting location for movies.
Aruvikuzhy Waterfalls, falling in five steps, is a real feast for the eyes. Here streams make
their way through the landscape and the water roars as it cascades 100 ft. down the
mountains. It is an ideal place for trekking. The famous St. Mary’s Church is situated at the
top of the waterfalls.
Tea Museum
Tea has always played an integral part in the history of Munnar.The tea plantations play a huge role in
attracting people to the area. The Kannan Devan Tea Museum was established by Tata Tea in 2005.Once
you get there you feel like you are in the lap of nature.It seems as if a huge green blanket is spread all over
the area.You also get to see the process of how tea is produced and packed. A large variety of tea is grown
there. A demonstration room for tea tasting is another attraction where one would come across different
varieties of tea. You can also taste some of the most exotic varieties of tea available around the world here.
This Tea garden is a must to visit spot for those who wish to explore the soul of Munnar.
Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary
The Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary also known as Vembanad Bird Sanctuary is situated in Kumarakom, on
the banks of Vembanad lake.Set in the Kerala backwaters, the bird sanctuary is a favourite haunt of
migratory birds.There is a system of paths moving around within the sanctuary.Beyond the sanctuary we
can also take a boat ride in the Vembanad lake. The main attractions are local birds like
waterfowls,herons,brahminy kite and the migratory birds like seagulls ,tern ,flycatcher which are seen
here during their respective migratory seasons.Some birds come from Himalayas where some come from
Siberia.The best time to see migratory birds is between november and february when bird across the
globe come here for mating.
Sree Padmanabhaswamy
Temple
Located inside the East Fort in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of the State of Kerala in India is
the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. This temple is a blend of the Kerala
and Dravidian styles of architecture. It is believed to be the world’s richest temple.
Across the world, the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple is renowned for its beauty and grandeur.
Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, it is one of the 108 sacred Vishnu temples or 'Divya Desams' in India. The
great King of Travancore, Marthanda Varma is said to have done the renovation work that we see
today. The temple has a dhwaja stambha (flag post) that is about 80 ft high and is covered with gold
plated copper sheets.The Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple as per belief is located at a place that is
considered as one of the seven Parasurama Kshetras. There are references to the temple in texts
like the Puranas, viz. the Skanda Purana and Padma Purana. The temple stands close to the holy
tank - Padma Theertham, which means 'lotus spring.'
