CHAPTER I
The Problem and Its Background
Information Is very significant for those who seek for it . The need for
information is unstoppable and continuous. Thus, it is indispensable especially
for the students and teachers who need information or references for academic
purposes. Which is more reliable, the internet or the library? Reliability and
trustworthy both went hand on hand. One is interdependent on the other. Only
when they found something reliable, they started building their trust on it (Saha,
2005)
Statement of the Problem
Reference or sources of information for educational purposes are very
important for every student of Danao National High School. The internet and
the library are the two main sources. This study was conducted to assess the
frequency of the internet and library usage of the students in Danao National
High School.

METHODOLOGY
A comparative research method was adopted in this study that compared the library and internet use of
students in Danao National High School. This study used the descriptive method and quantitative
approach on the assessment of the Frequency Usage of Internet and Library among the students. It was
used to justify current practice, make judgement and develop theories.

a. Range- used in finding the accurate intervals of the respondents’ ages.
b. Percentage – a way of expressing a proportion, a ratio, or a fraction of a
whole number by using 100 as a denominator.
c. Ranking – in the theory of order relations, the rank of a single observation among a
set is its ordinal number when the set is ordered according to some criterion.

As a part of study, the researchers distributed survey questionnaires to asses how frequent the students
use the internet and library and the level of usefulness of the problems encountered.
SUMMARY OF FINDINGS ON PERCENTAGE OF INTERNET USE
The frequency or the percentage of internet usage of the students in Danao National High School were as
follows:
34% of the respondents used internet once a month.
39% of the total population used it once a week
22% used internet several times a week
There were 2% who use internet several times a day
3% for everyday use.
Therefore, there was a high correlation with internet usage of once a week. The result was somewhat
related to the study of Kibirigie and Deplaoo (2000). In their study, the internet got an overwhelming
majority of subjects who used it once a week that includes those who use it daily. Also, with the study of
Shrestha (2008), 71% of the respondents used internet once a week . This studies proved that internet usage
of the students was high as they used it often.
SUMMARY OF FINDINGS ON PERCENTAGE OF LIBRARY USE
The study showed that the overwhelming majority of the respondents used the school library once in a week which is
56% of the total respondents. The other result were 12% for everyday use and 32% for once a month. Therefore,
majority of the students used the library once a week. Similarly , Shrestha (2008) found out that the library was highly
cited by the students weekly.
In terms of usefulness of internet, there was a satisfactory result of 92% which clearly revealed that internet
was indeed useful for the students. Kumah (2015), found out that on her study that internet got a high percentage
when it comes to usefulness or helpfulness of to the students . It got 87% regards.
SUMMARY OF FINDINGS ON LEVEL OF USEFULNESS OF LIBRARY
The study discovered that 85% of the population agreed that library was useful for them. Only
4% answered No and 11% responded that it was not really useful. Similarly, the library got 80% of
the response in terms of its importance to the students (Kumah, 2008)
It shows the result of most often used sources. Based from the result, it was the internet that
students most used often but majority answered both. Therefore, both were important for them.
It showed which sources is most preferred by the students. The study found out that between the
two, internet got the highest percentage (66%) which means, between internet and library, students
preferred the internet than the latter. While the library only got 34% of the responds.
SUMMARY OF FINDINGS ON THE RELIABILITY AND ACCURACY OF THE TWO
SOURCES OF INFORMATION
It shows which of the two sources gives more reliable and accurate information. The results
show that it was the library with the percentage of (65%). On the other hand, the internet only got
35 percentage in terms of reliability.
It shows that majority of the respondents (85%) agreed that internet and library was indeed helpful for them
specially with their study. There were only 4 who answered that it was not useful and 13 were not really
convinced that both were helpful.
CONCLUSION
After all the data gathered were successfully tabulated, the following conclusions were drawn:
• There was a high percentage of internet and library usage among the students of Danao National
High School.
• Students tend to use the internet and library as their sources or references in terms of information
gathering that truly helps with their academic works.
• Between internet and library, students preferred to use the internet than the library as indicated by the
result which was 65% of the total population.
• In accessing the internet and library, problems like locations, time, likeliness to use the two resources,
lacking of books in the library and internet connection were encountered.
• Students considered both internet and library as their resources. So both should play an important role
in providing relevant and credible information that the students need.
RECOMMENDATION
• The school should provide the needed resources of the students as it was important and
useful for them.
• The school library should be sufficient enough to satisfy the students need for information
like providing the needed materials and books for the academic purposes of the students.
• The two resources should be monitored frequently to be aware about what problems
students face to provide them proper remedies.
• Students should be properly oriented, for them to be aware about the very reason why the
school provides these two references.
Thank you!!!
Have a nice day
