What is Physical
Education?
Physical Education:
Is an integral part of educational program
designed to promote the optimum development
of an individual Physically, Emotionally, Mentally,
and Socially through total body movement in the
performance of properly selected physical
activities.

5. Spiritual Development
Through carefully selected physical education
activities, an individual who participates
actively and develop and maintain good health
and high level of physical fitness.
Social Development:
Participation in physical
education activities provides
opportunities for the development
of desirable social traits needed for
the adjustments to the social fit in
general.
Worthwhile Traits of Social Development:

• Friendliness
• Cooperation
• Respect for the rights of others
• Good sportsmanship
• Good leaderships and followers
• Honesty in group competition
Mental development objectives:
Focus is on the acquisition of knowledge
and understanding ability to analyze body
movements and skills, evaluate games
situations and make important decisions.
Understanding the rules of the games leads to
better performance or appreciation of an
activity if one is spectator.
Emotional Development:
Participating in varied physical activities in
able one to acquired pleasant attitudes
desirable habits, appreciation and values.
Positive character traits such us courage, self –
confidence, discipline, appreciation for beautiful
performance, self-control, self-reliance, self-
expression, and determination and developed
and become part of an individual’s way of life.
Spiritual Development:
Spiritual development is the development of
the personality towards a religious or
spiritual desired better personality. 
Since spiritual wellness involves one's values,
beliefs, and purpose, it can be achieved in
several ways—both physically and mentally.
Legal bases of Physical
Education:
Article 1 of the International Chapter of
Physical Education and Sports, UNESCO,
Paris, 1978 and Recommendation 1, Regional
Meeting of experts on Physical Education,
UNESCO, Brisbane Australia, 1982 state that:

“The practice of Physical Education and Sports


is fundamental right for all and this right
should not be treated as different in principle
from the right to adequate food, shelter, and
medical care.”
Article XIV, section 19, 1986 Constitution of the
Republic of the Philippines:
The state shall promote Physical Education and
encourage sports program, league competition, and
amateur sports including training for international
competition to faster self-discipline, teamwork, and
excellence for the development of a healthy and alert
citizenship.
All educational institutions shall undertake regular
sports activities throughout the country and in cooperation
with athletic club and other sectors.
What is a Physical Educated Person:
An individual who has undergone physical
education in the educational ladder cannot
deny the valuable contribution of this are
learning toward his total development. His
exposure and experiences in regular class
instruction and in intramural and
extramural competitions are expected to
have a tremendous effect of his lifestyle.
Characteristic of Physical Educated
Person:
• Understands the potential of physical
education activities in the attainment of
a healthy lifestyle and strives to achieve
his goal.

• Exercise regularly to develop and


maintain his weight and physical fitness.
• Acquires sufficient skills to enable
him to participate actively in some
form of recreational games, sports
and dances.

• Eat a balanced diet and practices


good eating habits.
• Gets adequate sleep and avoids drugs and
stimulates that will negatively affect his total
well – being.

• Enjoys participation in a variety of vigorous


activities and recreational pursuits.
• Appreciates good performance in games,
sports, and dances; and

• Can perform physical activities properly


without becoming over fatigue.
