    INDUCED ABORTION

    INDUCED ABORTION
     The termination of pregnancy using drugs or
    surgical intervention after implantation and
    before the embryo or fetus has become
    independently viable.
     Abortion type by trimester
    FIRST TRIMESTER :
    MEDICAL ABORTION
     Is performed through taking two medications
    in pill form: Mifepristone (mifeprex) and
    Misoprostol (Cytotec).
     Can be use up to 10th week of pregnancy.
     avoid if you have:

     Ectopic pregnancy
     Allergy to medications
     Bleeding disorder
     IUD
     Severe liver, kidney or lung disease
     ADVERSE EFFECTS:
     Abdominal pain
     vomiting
     Nausea
     Diarrhea
     Headache
     Heavy bleeding
     Maternal death
    FIRST TRIMESTER:
    SUCTION(ASPIRATION) D&C
     Also called Vacuum aspiration
     D&C- Minor surgery involves dilating or
    opening the cervix
     5-13 Weeks of pregnancy
     Avoid if you have:

     An abnormally shaped or functioning uterus


     Blood clotting disorders
     Pelvic infection
     Serious health problems
     SIDE EFFECTS
     Bleeding or spotting
     Cramps
     Nausea
     Sweating
     dizziness
    SECOND TRIMESTER:
    DILATATION & EVACUATION (D&E)
     Recommended for someone who’s delayed
    getting abortion or a fetus has a severe
    abnormality or medical problem
     13 weeks – 24 weeks
     Side effects include:

     Bleeding
     Cramping
     nausea
    THIRD TRIMESTER:
    INDUCTION PROCEDURE (INJECTION &
    STILLBIRTH
     Abortionist inserts needle with the digoxin
    through the woman’s abdomen or through her
    vagina and into the baby targeting either the
    heart, head or torso
     25 weeks in uter
     Side Effects:

     Pain
     Bleeding and cramping
     Nausea & vomiting
     Diarrhea
     Chills & headache
