CONCEPT OF AVOGADRO NUMBER

Avogadro's number is the number of atoms, molecules and ions in

one gram atom of an element , one gram molecule of a compound and
one gram ion of a substance, respectively

Lecture#11 (Ch.# Basic Concept,1st Year Chemistry)

DEFINITION OF MOLE

Atomic mass of an element expressed in grams is called one gram atom Number of gram atom or Mole of element
or one gram Mole or simply mole =Mass of an atom in grams/Molar mass of atom

The molecular mass of a substance expressed in grams is called gram Number of gram Molecule or Mole of molecule
molecule or gram mole or simply the mole of a substance. =Mass of molecule in grams/Molar mass of Molecule

Number of gram Formulas or Mole of Ionic substance

The formula unit mass of an ionic compound expressed in grams is called
=Mass of ionic compound in grams/Formula mass of ionic
gram formula of the substance
compound

Ionic mass of an ionic species (Na+, Cl-) expressed in grams is called one Number of gram ions or Mole of Ion
gram ion or one mole of ions =Mass of ion in grams/Formula mass of ion

Lecture#11 (Ch.# Basic Concept,1st Year Chemistry)

NUMBER OF PARTICLES (NA)

Number of atom =(Mass of an atom in grams/Molar mass of atom)×NA

Number of Atoms OR
Number of atom =Mole of atom×NA

Number of Molecules =(Mass of an Molecules in grams/Molar mass of

Number of Molecules Molecules)×NA OR
Number of Molecules =Mole of Molecules×NA

Number of Ions =(Mass of Ions in grams/Molar mass of Ions)×NA

Number of Ions in Ionic Species OR
Number of Ions =Mole of Ions×NA

Number of Charge (+ve or -ve) on Number of charge (+ve or –ve) on Ion=(Mole of Ion × Amount of charge on Ion)×NA
Ion
