Toolbox in the
Quick mode
• The toolbox in the Quick mode
contains a small set of easy-to-use
tools. The tools available in this mode
are Zoom, Hand, Quick Selection, Eye,
Whiten Teeth, Straighten, Type, Spot
Healing Brush, Crop, and Move.

• Hand tool (H)

• Moves your photo in the Photoshop Elements workspace. You can drag
your image using this tool.

• Rectangular Marquee tool (M)

-Selects an area in your image in a rectangular box. Hold the Shift key to
make the selection a square.

shape.

• Draws straight-edged segments of a selection border.

• Quick Selection tool (A)

• Makes a selection based on color and texture similarity when you click or
click-drag the area you want to select.

• Selection Brush tool (A)

• Selects the area where you paint with the brush.

• Selects the pixels with similar colors in a single click.

• Refine Selection Brush tool (A)

• Adds or removes areas to and from a selection by automatically detecting
the edges.

you want to select.

•Eye tool (Y)
•Removes the red eye effect, pet eye effect, and corrects closed eyes in

Removes spots from your photos.

-Applies tonal and color adjustments to specific areas of a photo.

Paints the adjustment to specific areas of a photo just like a painting tool.

•Clone Stamp tool (S)
-Paints with an image sample, which you can use to duplicate
objects, remove image imperfections, or paint over objects in your
photo. You can also clone part of an image to another image.
• Pattern Stamp tool (S)
-Paints with a pattern defined from your image, another image, or a
preset pattern.

•Blur tool (R)
•Softens hard edges or areas in an image by reducing details.

•Sharpen tool (R)

•Sharpens a photo by focusing soft edges in the photo to increase
clarity or focus

•Dodge tool (O)
•Lightens areas of an image. You can use the tool to bring out details
in shadows.

•Burn tool (O)

•Darkens areas of the image. You can use the tool to bring out
details in highlights.

Impressionist Brush tool (B)
Changes the existing colors and details in your image so your
photo looks like it was painted using stylized brush strokes.

Color Replacement tool (B)

Simplifies replacing specific colors in your image.

Eraser tool (E)
Erases the pixels in the image as you drag through them.

Background Eraser tool (E)

Turns color pixels to transparent pixels so that you can easily
remove an object from its background.

Magic Eraser tool (E)
Changes all similar pixels when you drag within a photo.

Paint Bucket tool (K)

Fills an area that is similar in color value to the pixels you click.

Applies a fill or a pattern to your image, instead of using one of
the brush tools.

Gradient tool (G)

Fills in an area of image by a gradient. For more information

• There are two different ways to start working in Photoshop.
One is to create a new blank Photoshop document and
then import images, graphics and other assets into it. And
the other is to open an existing image.
How to create a new
Photoshop document?
•To create a new document from the
Home Screen, click the Create
New... button in the column along the
left:

•Another way to create a new
Photoshop document is by going up
to the File menu in the Menu Bar and
choosing New. Or you can press the
keyboard
shortcut, Ctrl+N (Win) / Command+N
 (Mac):

•Any way you choose to create a new document opens the
New Document dialog box, and there are actually two
versions of this dialog box. We'll start by looking at the
default version (pictured here), and then I'll show you
how to switch to the older, smaller version which I
personally think is better
 Choosing a recently-
used document size
•By default, the Recent category is
selected, and it gives you quick
access to any recently-used
document sizes. To choose one, click
on its thumbnail to select it and then
click the Create button in the bottom
right corner of the dialog box. Or you
can just double-click on the
thumbnail.

•Along with choosing from recently-
used document sizes, we can also
choose from preset sizes. First,
select the type of document you want
to create by choosing one of the
categories (Photo, Print, Web, and so
on) along the top. I'll choose Photo

•The presets will appear below as
thumbnails. Only a few presets are
displayed at first, but you can see
more by clicking View All Presets +

•the details of the preset appear in the
Preset Details panel along the right of
the dialog box.
•After choosing the "Landscape, 8 x 10"
preset, we see that sure enough, this
preset will create a document with a Width
of 10 inches and a Height of 8 inches.
•It also sets the Resolution to 300
pixels/inch which is the standard
resolution for print

document
•If you're happy with the settings,
click the Create button in the bottom
right of the dialog box
•This closes the New Document
dialog box and opens your new
document in Photoshop.

box where we see that the Width of
the document is in fact 10 inches, the
Height is 8 inches, and the
Resolution is set to 300 pixels/inch.

the Home Screen is dynamic and
changes from time to time, so
yours may look different from
what we're seeing here

To open a new image from

This opens the File Explorer on a

Windows PC or the Finder on a Mac
(which is what I'm using here).
Navigate to the folder that holds
your images, and then double-click
on an image to open it.

What if you've already opened an
image, as I have here, and now you
want to open a second image?
• Click the Home button to return to
the Home Screen.
• Then back on the Home Screen,
click again on the Open button

1. Open Google Sites.

• Head to Google Sites to

start creating your new
website. Click the + in
the bottom corner to get
started.
2. Open the Google
Sites Support Page.
• Since you’ll probably have some
questions during the process, it’s
worth opening the Google Sites
Support Page for a list of some
of the most common Google
Sites functions. Keep this tab up
as you build your website.
3. Add layouts,
text, and images.
• Using the right-hand
sidebar, you can add layouts,
text, images, and videos to
any Google Sites page.
4. Use free or paid templates and themes to
help your site stand out.

• Free templates are available directly from Google,

allowing you quickly change things like fonts, color
schemes, or layouts. You can also purchase and install
new themes and templates. I’ve included a handful of top
templates and themes below.
5. Name your Google Site.
• In the top-left of the screen click Enter Site Name
and choose a name for your new website.
6. Title your first web page.
• Click on Your Page Title and enter a title for your page.
You can change the font size, add bold or italic text, and
include links.
7. Choose your Site layout.
• On the sidebar, you’ll see multiple options for page
layouts including single images with text, multiple
images, and more. Click on the layout you prefer or
drag-and-drop it into your new website.
8. Add media to your site.
• As you create more web pages, add titles and body text
in the Click to edit text area, then click Change image.
This brings up a menu that lets you upload media — an
image from your computer or Google Drive, a video
from YouTube, or a Google Maps image.
9. Expand your Site content.
• dd additional context and content using the menu on
the bottom-right of the screen. Here, you’ll find options
to include collapsible text menus, tables of contents,
image carousels, and even buttons. Need inspiration?

10. Choose and add a theme.
• Click Themes and choose from six available free
themes with multiple color schemes and fonts.
11. Publish your Google Site.
• When you’re happy with your site’s layout and
content, click Publish in the upper-right hand
corner.
12. Choose your web address and set
viewing rights.
• You can now select a web address and select
viewing or editing rights for your site, allowing
visitors to simply view your site or make changes.
13. Incorporate your own URL.
• If you prefer to use a URL you already own, visit this
Google Support page and follow the steps listed —
you’ll need to verify you own the URL, point your URL
to your Google Site through your hosting provider’s
platform, and then directly assign your custom URL.
You can also register a new domain name for your
Google Site.
