Definition
Narrative text is an imaginative story to
entertain and attract readers by presenting a
story or event that has a problem that causes
conflict and at the end of the story there is a
resolution that can be a happy ending or
even a sad ending.
Purpose
The purpose of narrative text is to amuse or
entertain the readers with actual or
imaginary experiences in difference ways.
Narrative always deal with some problems
which lead to the climax and then turn into
a solution to the problem.
Generic Structure of Narrative Text
There are 4 generic structures of narrative text that you need to know if you want to
compose or create a narrative text, namely:
1.Orientation
It is the opening part of a narrative text story. This section introduces the characters in the
story ( characters) and the setting of the story which includes the setting of place, time,
atmosphere, and social conditions ( setting ).
2.Complication
This section contains the problems that occur in a story. In more detail, complications are
further divided into 3 parts, namely:Rising action: Problems are starting to arise
Climax: The pinnacle of trouble
Falling action: The tension of the problem begins to decrease, and begins to find a solution
point.
Generic Structure of Narrative Text
3. Resolution
This section contains the completion or ending of a narrative text story.
A story can be closed with a happy ending, a sad ending, or a hanging
ending

4. Re-orientation
The last part of the narrative text structure usually contains conclusions,
moral values , or changes in the character of the characters at the end of
the story. This reorientation is optional because it does not always have
to be in a narrative text.
Characteristic of narrative text
1.It can be real or fictitious Types of Narrative
It can belong to the plane of reality, but it can also describe a series of Text:
fantasy or fiction. - Autobiography
2.May have one or more characters - Biography
There are no limits for the participation of characters. - Cultural
3. History has a space and a time - Narratives
The narrative text takes place in a specific time and space. - Fables
4. Narrate an action - Fairytales
A narrative text describes the actions that the characters perform - Folktale
5. Has a goal - Legend
A narrative text can have an informative purpose, teaching or - Myth
entertainment.
Feature Language
1.Simple Past Tense.
Narrative Text generally tells of events in the past .Example: "Once upon a time,
a princess named Snow White lived in a castle with her father, the King, and her
stepmother, the Queen."
2. Action verbs
Verbs that express action.Example: talked, walked, etc.
3. Adjective
Example: beautiful, smart, etc.
4. Adverb of time
Example: once upon a time, one day, etc.

a.When?
When summer season was over

b.Where?
In the forest

c.Who?(the main characters and their character)


• Baby goat:Gullible
• Bad wolf:liar and evil
• The teacher:wise and intelligent
• Goat siblings:helpfulness
Complication
a.Problem
The baby goat forgot his painting book, So he returned to home but on the way to his
house ,he met a bad wolf who wanted to eat him.

b.Conflict
The wolf pretended to be a butterfly to tricked the baby goat and take the baby goat into
the deep forest to eat him, while the baby goat's cousin realized that the baby goat is
missing and asked his teacher to help him.

c.Climax
The wolf took the baby goat into the forest and took him to the cave, when he got there the
wolf took off his wings and antennae and was ready to eat the baby goat.
Complication
d.Anticlimax
on the way to look for the baby goat, the teacher found big footprints and immediately
knew that the baby goat was in danger, then the teacher made a plan with the baby goat
cousins to save the baby goat.

e.Solution
The teacher and the baby goat came to the wolf's place and hid in the two corners of the
entrance. the teacher spreads the sticky thread she uses in painting class to both ends of the
cave. then he asked the baby goat to dance in front of the nest, heard the sound of the
goats, the wolf immediately came over, he got caught in the sticky thread at the entrance of
the nest and he rebelled and disappeared into the forest
Re-orientation
The baby goat almost fell into the wolf trap because he
want to be a flying goat,the teacher said he should
always be his self,do not compare your self to anyone
else and the baby goats returned to their school together
and continued their lessons,since that day the baby goat
has not been deceived by any trap because the
information he learned at school made him more careful.
