Mobile Communication

Lesson 1
Differentiate between different types of
mobile communication device.

 Mobile Phone
 Digital Cordless phone
 PDAs
 Laptop
 Palmtop
 FRID (Radio Frequency Identification Devices.)
Digital Cordless phone

 A wireless telephone that transmits to and receives signals from

a base station within a range of a couple hundred feet.
 The first landline phones not tied to the desk or wall, cordless
phones were invented in the 1950s but did not take hold until
the 1980s.
 Initially transmitting analog signals at low frequencies, the 900
MHz band was chosen as the standard by 1990.
 Cordless phones subsequently migrated to digital transmission
and frequencies from 1.8 to 5.8 GHz
PDAs

 A personal digital assistant (PDA), also known as a handheld PC, is a variety

mobile device which functions as a personal information manager.
 Examples of this type of personal digital assistant include Apple's Siri,
Microsoft's Cortana and Amazon's Alexa.
 PDA, in full personal digital assistant, an electronic handheld organizer used in the
1990s and 2000s to store contact information, manage calendars, communicate by
e-mail, and handle documents and spreadsheets, usually in communication with
the user's personal computer (PC).
Palmtop

 a computer that has a small screen and compressed keyboard and is small
enough to be held in the hand, often used as a personal organizer.
 Palmtops can also act as communication devices, by incorporating a mobile
phone (cellphone) card, and entertainment devices by including computer games.
 PalmTop: It is very small in size and can be placed on the palm. Palmtops make
use of an electronic pen known as stylus in place of key board for operating. Data
feeding is done through hand written messages using this pen.
FRID (Radio Frequency Identification Devices.)

 Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology uses radio waves to identify

people or objects. There is a device that reads information contained in a
wireless device or “tag” from a distance without making any physical
contact or requiring a line of sight.
 Radio-frequency identification (RFID) uses electromagnetic fields to automatically
identify and track tags attached to objects. An RFID system consists of a tiny radio
transponder, a radio receiver and transmitter.
 RFID (radio frequency identification) is a form of wireless communication that
incorporates the use of electromagnetic or electrostatic coupling in the radio
frequency portion of the electromagnetic spectrum to uniquely identify an object,
animal or person.
