    HOPE 3- FOLK DANCE

    QUARTER 2
    TEACHER – GINA E. LIBAN
    FOLK DANCING – it is defined as a
    traditional dance of a given people. It
    demonstrates or dramatizes their
    customs, depicts their costumes and
    visualizes their inherent culture.
    PHILLIPINE FOLK DANCE – is being studied to
    perpetuate the customs and tradition of the Filipinos.
    Like other countries these are the traditional dances
    which evolved naturally and spontaneously in
    connection with everyday activities and experiences
    of the people who developed them.
    OBJECTIVES OF
    TEACHING
    PHILLIPINE FOLK
    DANCES
    1. Foster patriotism and nationalism
    through the study of our dance and
    culture.

    2. Arouse better appreciation of


    Phillipine music and its use in folk
    dances.
    3. Provide through dancing a healthful form of
    relaxation and recreation.

    4. Develop a graceful and rhythmic coordination


    and body movements that will improve posture.
    5. Preserve, for posterity, folk dances and
    music indigenous to the different regions of
    the Phillipines.

    6. Demonstrates the growth of Filipino


    culture through the evolution of Phillipine
    dances.
    Classifications
    According to
    Cultural Origin
    Cordillera Dances - These are dances of
    the Kalingas, Ifugaos and other
    ethnolinguistic groups of the Cordillera
    mountains. They are known for their
    distinct costumes such as G-strings and
    tapis and grounded movements which is a
    reflection of their daily routine.
    Spanish-Influenced Dances - These dances
    are a reflection of Spanish
    culture merged with that of ours. From the
    costumes alone, you can really tell
    whether it’s a Spanish-influenced Folk
    Dance or not. Males wear the barong
    tagalog and females wear the maria clara
    of different elaborate designs.
    Rural Dances - These are dances which
    reflect the true spirit and character of the
    Filipino people. They wear peasant
    occupational costumes but reflect in their
    movements activities of fishing, farming,
    courtship and merrymaking. Some others
    mimic movements of animals like birds,
    fish and others.
    Muslim Dances - The are dances
    of the exotic southern part of the
    country. They mirror the
    character and colorful culture of
    Muslims as seen in their discrete
    expression and brightly colored
    silk costumes.
    Tribal and Indigenous Dances -
    These dances are of tribal
    origin. They reflect the culture
    and ways of a specific tribal
    group in any point of the
    country. They may be from
    Luzon, Visayas or Mindanao.
