career to help give you an idea what
kind of job opportunities are available
once it’s time to make a decision.

Identify your opportunities at present to
pursue the topics that you are most naturally
drawn to. Sustaining a strong motivation to
continue with the course.

It motivates a person
toward certain decision, behavior,
and goals. Values in life may help
define a person. If the inclination
of the person is towards serving or
helping others, then a course
must meet the preference of that
individual.

Deciding on a course to take in a college
my entail a big cut on the family’s budget. A
student may have wide range of choices but
financial considerations might be a factor to
hinder certain career choices.

may use career/interest inventories

Psychologist John Holland classified jobs/careers/work
environments into six: Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social,
Enterprising and Conventional. There are no pure
classifications, though.

pathway
- involves working with his/her hands and
use physical skills. Possible career paths
include Engineer, Mechanic or Skilled
professional.
Investigative
pathway
- focus on ideas, investigation, research, and
technical activities. Possible career paths include
Physician, Analyst, Technical writer, and Mechanical
Technologist.

Artistic
pathway
- exhibits creativity, and being
expressiveness and nonconformist. Possible
career paths include Decorator, Musician, Interior
Designer and among others.
Social
pathway
- likes to engage in care-giving activities, group
dynamics, social events, teaching, and leadership.
Possible career paths include preparation as Counselor,
Psychologist or Speech Therapist.

pathway
- found in the world and include corporations and
business jobs. Possible career paths include
Salesperson, Manager, Business Executive, or
Television Producer.
Conventional
pathway
- they are good at arithmetic skills and abilities.
Possible career path include Bookkeeper, Financial Analyst, or
Public Accountant.
